How much does engine weigh?

Does anyone know how much a fully assembled Mazdaspeed engine weighs?

I’m just wanting to know how much I can assemble on my Harbor Freight engine stand before I should be concerned. (I’m using three 12.9 grade bolts and one 8.6.)

Also, on a side note, when doing the OEM head bolts, do I need to be concerned about the amount of pressure put on the stand needed to get them tight?

I have a generic HF stand I have been using for years. You'll be fine with a fully decked block on there as long as the block is secured against the bracket and you arent bending the bolts.

As for torquing the head down, get a bag or two of concrete or sand and put it on the legs. Or use chocks. Have an assistant brace the stand. Lots of different options as long as it isnt moving when you're doing the torque sequence.

I don''t think you can buy an engine stand that isn't capable of supporting these 4 cylinder engines. The ratings may be important for some of the bigger engines out there.

I typically just use my foot as a chock to keep the stand from rolling around when I am torqueing some of the fasteners.

Anyone know how much the DISI short/long blocks weigh though?

I weighed the engine at this level of completion and it’s about 210lbs. Lighter than I was anticipating. Changes from OEM:

- No balance shaft.
- Manley pistons and K1 rods (lighter than OEM).

Thanks a lot dude! Ppl have weighed the balance shaft assembly at what 20lbs? Pistons and rods weight difference is at best another 2-3lbs being generous. I see the waterpump is missing too, maybe another 3lb. In total, an extra 25lb is missing. So our full longblock is about 235lb. Great info.
