[SOLVED] Hypertech tuner

I had a HT WAY back in like 2011. Get rid of the HT.

Im not going to go back though all the reasons since everyone already covered them. The tune is not safe, and maybe you will be fine if you never drive aggressive, but the stock tune is way safer than HT. A real tune for your car and mods is even safer yet.

Its clear you dont want to listen, there hasnt even been one person on here to has remotely backed you. Maybe try FB? there are lots of idiots on there who might help push your bandwagon that you seem to be desperately clinging to for some unknown reason

1. The knock sensor can be disabled via tune.
2. Hundreds of dyno runs on how many cars across how many years?
3. Marketing claims are just that.

Threads like these start out good, but always wind up looking like the op just wants people to agree with their choices.

I have no feelings about Hypertech which would lead me to want to defend them or use them. The issue is that so far everyone here is sounding like they have strong opinions about the Hypertech tunings which are based to a large extent on assumptions. For instance, I know that advancing timing can increase the possibility of detonation, but has anyone here really assessed Hypertech’s tune (taking all aspects into consideration) and determined it’s unsafe?

If so then fantastic and I’m 100% ready to listen. But if people here are making guesses, however educated you may believe yourselves to be, then at least fess up. I wouldn’t necessarily not respect what you say just because it’s a guess.

Just because I’m questioning how much people here actually know about Hypertech’s tunings doesn’t mean I don’t want to listen to their advice. I’m simply trying to assess how educated the advice is—someone can give advice about something they’re not informed about, and it may be good advice, but where they’re coming from is important. Though I am pretty sure that a someone very educated in tuning wouldn’t make assumptions about a tuning based on a couple of tidbits of information they heard second or third hand.

But again, if people here have actually analysed Hypertech’s tunings then great!

So much conjecture in this thread, not to mention all the hysterics from some of you guys.

I'm tuned via Stratified at the moment (formerly Dizzy, until he stopped apv2 support). Prior to that, I ran an HT for about 3 years. I've had my Speed for just shy of a decade.

HT is fine. Don't expect 'massive gainz' out of it, but for a lightly modded car, they are fine. It's a load based tune that caps at around 1.8 or 1.9 load - I can't actually recall ever even hitting a 2.0 load on the thing from the basic datalogging that I did when I owned it. Or exceeding 235 g/s for that matter. I don't see an HT car getting to much over 250whp; the tune is just too limited. It does run more timing than the stock tune, sure, and the AFR targets go down into the 9s at upper rpms. There could be some additional fuel dilution as a result, but if you're changing your oil every 3-4k and running an SN+ oil like you should be doing, you won't have a problem.

Seriously, the HT does provide enough of a gain to make it the threat you guys think it is. For a DD, again, it's fine. I certainly wouldn't base a build around the thing, though.

Can we just close this thread? Op has made up his mind and its looking like low key trolling at this point.

Pump gas usually peaks out at 14 on a big turbo for most cars, IIRC. This is likely why it's also spraying so much fucking fuel.

This thread is done. I'll wait for the new my motor is making a weird noise what do you think it could be thread

Guys,

the OP is willing to do R and D on the hypertech tunes for us since none of us have any clue. And he’s gonna do it ON HIS DOLLAR. I think this is fantastic. I officially take back everything I said. Slap that $20 tune on your car and report back your findings over time. We’re all really, really, REALLY interested.

Might aswell be, locked thread it's going no where all the information even the comparisons with data logs have been given comparing hypertech to stock tune.

People with 10+ years of experience with speeds have chimed in to tell us how poorly it's gotten Raider has one on his wall of shame.

Don't use it, it's a spicy tune that will pop your engine data is here /thread
