I still love my MazdaSpeed6

In 2006 I wanted to buy a new car. My wife drove new cars, but I had always been happy with used cars until that point. I looked at the Subaru WRX STi and Mitubishi Evo, but didn't like the boy racer looks (I was 40 at the time) and the extra $10k price. I knew I wanted something AWD and turbocharged and really liked how the MS6 drove and looked, so I bought it new. I guess these cars weren't selling well, because the dealer had them marked down a lot. After dropping off the car at the dealer a couple of weeks ago for the fuel pump mounting ring recall (that's another long saga), I told my wife that I am still in love with how the car looks and drives almost 19 years later. I don't think I will ever sell the car and will just keep it in my garage shop when it eventually gets retired from daily driver duty (100 miles a day back and forth across Houston, so it has some bruises).

What oil you runnin and how often do you clean/rebuild the HPFP?
Got some good miles out of that thing for sure.

For the last few years, I’ve been running Mobil 1 5W-30 High Mileage. I can usually find it for about $25 for 5 quarts at Walmart or on Amazon. I’ve never done anything with the HPFP but it is on my list. I rarely beat on it.

165K miles. With business travel and relocation assignments with my job, it has spent a few years parked at home in the garage over the last 19 years.

The turbo, airbags, and now fuel pump mounting ring have all been done by Mazda under warranty/recall. I’ve replaced the shifter bushing and thermostat. A few weeks ago I finished the job of replacing the leaking AC evaporator and also replaced the AC compressor.

I didn’t have to touch the brakes until about 152K. So far the original clutch is still holding. But I’m starting to get some rattles in the front and rear suspension so those items are on the list.

I don’t even recall seeing a Speed3 until after I bought my car. I wanted AWD, anyway. Now that you mention it, though, I have been keeping my eye out for a clean, unmolested first gen Speed3.

Speed3 seem to be more rowdy, and you can get a much newer one since they kept making them till 2013..

with that said, a clean one is tough to find… honestly, just try to get one without rust, and have have like $5k ready for a rebuild.. great cars but they are getting older and win multiple owners, who knows the history.

On a positive note, the value is basically nothing, (compared to an evo or sti) so you can get one cheap..
