Issue with what appears to be phantom KR

Thanks for the reply!

I just put in the replacement seals that came with the motor, wish I had known about all the issues with the seals and I would have got new ones when I had everything taken apart.
And my mounts are still stock as well. And looked in ok shape when we put them back in.
Corksport seals are a lot better. Now it could be a loose part ratting or something.

Turns out mine is just a shittily assembled remanufactured engine. They do all the bottom end stuff but literally just pull the head and reattach when done with the bottom end. Meaning the engine will run, but something in the head is causing the knock.

Damn, sorry to hear. I bought mine through O’reilly’s, which when I was looking around at options, sounds like the same place that Edge outsources there’s from. After the fact, had some buyers remorse.
Yours still running well besides the knock?
Mines running smooth, so far at least. Just have a rev limiter set at 5k rpm so I didn’t hit the 5400 knock. I’m taking it back to the tuner next month and just going to have him ignore/reduce KS sensitivity. Worst case, it blows again and I have to convince the wife that a 2nd new motor is a good idea haha

Other than that the engine is solid as can be. Gearhead offers a 3 year/unlimited mile warranty. When I spoke to the rep he basically said as long as I didn't starve it of oil, they'd replace it without any hassle. My 93 tune is set at like 6° of timing. My E85 map is pretty neutered because of it as well. I used to make 375/385 before I blew. Now I make 330/380. I'm running a higher mix now too for safety purposes since we can't actually detect real knock. That's the reason my power number is lower.

I didn't do much to the car until the motor blew, so I don't have to worry about the numbers disappointment haha, whatever I get at the end of all this will be significantly more than I had before.

Thanks for the info!!

Finally got the tune! He had to numb the knock sensor down, but after that everything was going pretty smooth.
He wasn’t comfortable with the idea, and hasn’t had many cars fight with him as much as this one. But thanks to you guys for sharing your info! So nice to have my car fully functioning numbers aren’t huge, but I want this car to survive another 10 years and 150k miles.

New fun coming up, oil level dropped and it’s all over the transmission housing. Might be the rear main seal leaking. Soooo hopefully these guys are good at honoring the warranty, if that’s what it is.

so how did the engine hold up still have the car? Just got a reman atk in my 6 and have the exact same kr issue and cannot figure it out. Have a weird rattle tho that sounds like injector seals but they have been triple checked with cs seals. I can only hear it rattle at part throttle, as soon as I let off it’s gone. I assume it rattles at wot and that’s the kr I get but can’t hear because the exhaust.
