Mazda 6 MPS – Propeller Shaft CV Boot Replacement (Beck/Arnley 103-2824 Dimensions)

Hi everyone,

I own a Mazda 6 MPS (Mazdaspeed 6) and I'm located in Italy.

During the restoration of my car, I noticed that the propeller shaft boot was damaged. Since I already had the driveshaft removed, I decided to remove the original boot and replace it with a standard CV joint boot.

While searching online, I came across a forum thread discussing the Beck/Arnley boot, part number 103-2824, which seems to be a popular replacement among Mazda 6 MPS owners. Unfortunately, this part is not available here in Italy, and I haven't been able to find any information online regarding its dimensions.

Could anyone who has this boot provide me with the following measurements?
- Small inner diameter
- Large inner diameter
- Overall height

I also had the metal lip where the tripod joint sits machined to make the groove wider, providing more room for the boot clamp to grip.

So far, I've tried an SKF VKJP 01013, which has the following dimensions:
- Small inner diameter: 22 mm
- Large inner diameter: 72 mm
- Overall height: 97 mm

The diameters fit perfectly, but I believe the boot is too tall.

The main issue I'm experiencing is that it doesn't last very long. The clamp tends to slip off the rubber, causing the boot to come loose. I'm using standard CV boot clamps, the type tightened with CV boot clamp pliers.

I've tried tightening the clamp as much as possible, and initially it seems perfectly secure. However, after driving the car for a while, it seems that the clamp gradually slips off the rubber.

My suspicion is that the Beck/Arnley boot has slightly smaller diameters and, more importantly, a shorter overall height.

I'm also considering trying a boot with the following dimensions:
- Small inner diameter: 20 mm
- Large inner diameter: 70 mm
- Overall height: 80 mm

The slightly smaller diameters, combined with the clamp, might provide a better fit and prevent the boot from coming loose.

Has anyone tried the Beck/Arnley 103-2824 or found a suitable alternative?

Any help with the dimensions or recommendations for a reliable replacement would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Went through the same process with my propeller shaft, spend time and money buying CV shafts over and over trying to figure out why it wouldn't hold but they just keep blowing up above 80kmh+.

In the end I took it past a driveshaft mechanic and he installed the correct boot for me, ended up spending the same amount I had spent on buying CV boots over and over again, this doesn't include the amount of times I had to clean the whole underbody of grease.

It probably isn't what you want to hear but you will have to end up spending the extra money to do it the right way.
