MS3 vs. Mk6 GTI

I know this will definitely get some biased responses, but I figured I'd ask here.

I used to own an 07 MS3. I loved that thing. Was active on the old forums and love the community. Unfortunately I young, dumb, and in college when I had it so I never really appreciated it or took care of it as I should've. Not to say I took bad care of it, but I definitely didn't know much about car maintenance, at least not as much as I do now. I ended up trading the MS3 for a high-mileage e39 M5, and you can all imagine how well that went.

I recently sold my 05 Forester XT. It's an awesome car, especially with manual, but I just never connected with it. I'm looking to get something new, and a big part of me wants to get back into a Speed3. I'm also considering a Mk6 GTI as they are both about the same price. Has anyone owned both? Would you be able to give me a comparison of sorts in regards to reliability, practicality, and fun?

If I do go MS3, should I stick with a Gen1 like used to have? (I think it looks better) or go Gen2 (Are we still calling it GenPu?) since it's newer? What specifically should I look for when looking at used ones before I choose to take one for a PPI?

Thanks for the quick response. I'm primarily gonna use it as a daily - I have a Miata for modding, but I still wanna have fun on my commute / when I need a bit more space than the Miata. Might do some basic handling / appearance mods, but nothing serious.
 
I had a bnrs4 turbo gen 2. Did everything but exhaust manifold bolt on wise and tuned on e85. I loved my speed. Sold it when I moved to LA due to emissions in California. It had over 110k miles on the stock block with good compression. Great car.

After being around a few volkswagens now and taking nator out of the equation, I'd take the gti to own something different. I have been thinking about getting one myself but want to get into a rwd car as well. I just can't justify the cost of the ones I want right now.

I've been really impressed by the couple of volkswagens I've been around recently. The gti is a nicer car to daily and can pick up more performance for the money. Like 400hp with 91 octane and gtx2867. That's more than E85 with a bnrs4 in mazdaspeed. Also seems to have a bigger aftermarket.

As much as I appreciate the GTI I wouldn't own one, I've worked on a variety of German cars own one too, Bros best friend is mechanic so is one of my friends and we all agree VW/Audi are the worst out of them to work on everything tight and requires special tools. I hate working on them
 
Honestly I don't fit in Volkswagens not that I'm a huge person but I'm 5'11", "husky" and have really wide shoulders. They have lots of legroom but seem to be designed for girls and beanpoles.
