Hey all, first post here and not the most in tune with cars.
So I recently bought an 06 MS6, its been at the shop for 1 month now with a few issues. Mainly an overboosting issue. When WOT, mainly in higher gears the car hits fuel cut and bogs down pretty violently and throws a P0234 code. The car also had some timing issues which I will discuss. So, when My mechanic was fixing the timing issue, he noticed the turbo had some pretty bad shaft play, so we decided to just replace the turbo, we knew this wouldnt fix the overboost issue, but was more of a precautionary measure. He also replumbed the boost valve. This did not fix any issue, he ensured the wastegate actuator was set correctly, this was brand new with the turbo so no issues there. He noticed that when we fitted his mechanical gauge to the car, it was reading 15psi, to what i know, this is relatively normal, however when he check the logs, the computer was reading 27psi causing it to hit fuel cut. So he assumed it was an issue with the MAP sensor reading the boost wrong. When he unplugged the MAP and took it for a drive, it drove fine, no overboosting issue. So now he was pretty certain it was a bad MAP, so he installed a new one from bosch and well, the overboost came right back... at this point he was starting to get pretty confused. Next he moved to the fueling system, he said the fuel pump when definitely old, so he changed it to test and still to no avail. At this point he was pretty stumped. mind you hes a good freind of my families so hes been cutting my labour charge hours, really trying to help me out.
Now the car also had a timing issue, but im not sure if this could cause an issue like overboost this persistant. He changed a bleeding VVT solenoid which didnt fix the issue, so now he thinks its the actual CAM Gear which hes waiting on the parts for. he said the timing chain looks good and everything under the rocker cover looks pretty good otherwise.
Now he was definitely weary of the cars history as he could tell someone had played around with it in the past, it has 125,000km(hope they are genuine...) and everything on the car is bone stock.
Just seeing if anyone has any leads on this sort of issue or can point us in the right direction. Thanks
