New to Mazda

Howdy! Glad to be here. Hopefully y’all can deal with my ignorance on this machine I’ve acquired! I’ve worked on so many different vehicles over the years but never a turbo Mazda. Got a 2011 speed3 from a buddy at a dealership I used to work at and now it’s finally time to break into this thing. He was told by one of our master techs there that it has low compression and that a head gasket would likely sort it out. This thing is slammed low and has some side skirts and rims and such. A Cobb plug in inside the car. And of course a leaky seal somewhere. XD I’m honestly more concerned with having all of the bolts I need as the intercooler and entire intake manifold was off it when I took possession of the car. Here’s to a good experience overall and a new little zoom box to run the kids around in o7

Welcome! First thing.. I would post a few engine pics so we can see how stock it is..

If your rebuilding, you should do the rods as they are a weak point. Pending on power goals..

If you do get a new engine or if you want to get it up and running, make sure you get a good tune on it.. e tunes are solid.. we can help point where to go..
Who knows what tune is on it now..
That cobb thing is probably an access port.. that is your tuning device.

Also check the fuel pump internals.. make sure they are upgraded..

Any goals? Time frame?

Post a lot of pictures so we can help you figure out what you are dealing with

Low compression is pretty much never a head gasket on these things...Not sure where the master tech got that idea from.

I’ll get some pictures up here after I get back from work this evening. And as far as that master tech thinking it would be a head gasket I honestly have no idea. I don’t think he really wanted to deal with the car or it’s issues at all haha.
For a timeline and power I want it to be driveable as soon as possible realistically within a few weeks. And I would like a bit more than stock but I’m not really of a kind to push this thing to any kind of limits. Maybe 300whp would be *chefs kiss*
