Penguin Mobile: "Jesus Built my Hotrod"

Tell your neighbors to suck a fat one. Progress is looking good. Clever idea with the mount.

Believe me I would love to, but we only have 9 more months left on this lease before we hopefully (fingers crossed) buy our first home. It's not worth a battle with "leased Mercedez C-class white privilige."

Come be my neighbor! Guy that I my yard backs onto restores old muscle cars I always know when he's got them fired up, his son runs a performance shop in town (,too bad I can't remember the shop name or his name haha, only chatted once at the start of covid). Edit: that way the 3 of us can be loud together

Hi everyone!

Penguin is not dead, just been really busy. My last post was 8/2020, damn!

Personal highlight is my wife and I bought our first house! It has a 2 car garage, lots of plans for it (including convertible paint booth). Progress has been slow because it was remodeled half assed. So we have been fixing more than unpacking these first 3 weeks.

Mazda update: hood vents are on, they are awesome! My clutch is moody, ordered all new OEM hydraulic parts, just need time to swap. Cobb catback has moved again and vibrates the whole car, it happens every 6 months and after 3 years my patience is wearing thin. Need to swap injectors, spark plugs, redo PCV system, and revise suspension for 2021.

Next post will be more detailed. Happy Fathers Day to the dad's!

Congrats on the house! You said the exhaust moved? Are you running poly exhaust mounts or worn OE ones? Also where did you get the hood vents?

If you havent done the bushings yet, I had a press here in Melbourne that you could use. Also have a 1" spacer that you'll need (unless you want to bend non bendy stuff like I did).

Thanks for the offer, I really do appreciate it. My wife got me a bushing press for Xmas, so I am good. I have all front bushings, rear trailing bushing, and steering rack bushings to swap.

Thanks, homeownership is proving to be an equal burden and blessing.

I have Cobb poly mounts. OEM were removed at 45k miles/7years, because they were sagging and couldn't hold the catback. The catback is heavy, almost as heavy as OEM, but the OEM hangers have a flared lip to keep the catback from moving. The Cobb one does not, so it slides around on the hangers. I will modify the hangers before I replace the exhaust.

Hood vents are generic "small angled vents" from Track Spec.

You could use stainless zip ties to create your own flared lip so it doesn't move on it or JB weld / Steel Stik.

My corksport mid pipe didn't have the same flares as stock but instead has the hanger bent down about 30 degrees it seems to work

Edit: a bend in the hanger beyond where the rubber sits

I was enjoying reading about your analysis of air evacuation and the methods of improvement. Have you continued your research and progress?

No, but not for lack of desire.

After doing the hood vents last year, I ran into some long term durability issues with the foam seals I used. That prevented me from being able to take the measurements I wanted. Plus we bought a house shortly after. Goddamn house...

I collided with someone last December. Front end, fenders, hood, everything fucked. Last body shop I used was through Mazda 9 years ago, fucking nightmare. Decided to use a shop recommended by my insurance, even worse nightmare.

Long story short... No seals or baffles were reused despite being OEM and undamaged. So my car has barely had AC for the last 2 and a half months. After numerous fights with the body shop I am done. I already ordered everything they missed, just havent had time to slap it on and asses any other damage.

PS: The speed will be getting a refresher soon. New coilovers, springs, PCV system, paint job/rust treatment

If you went to a shop recommended by your insurance make it their problem not yours

Shit just file another claim for vandalism

Thought about it, amongst other scenarios. But I am done with other people touching the speed and having to deal with a rental. Also done with Geico...

Dumbfucks down here couldn't repair a car properly if their lives depended on it. I dont want to get into all the shit I have found plugged in wrong...

I get the whole, "make it right," idea but its just going to be more of an inconvenience to me. So fuck it. Next time, (hoping no next time), I am opting to fix the car myself and just get a check from the insurance.

Shit.....

I miss this place.

Been out of sorts for a while.

The Pu needs restoration work.

Having a mental health breakdown and then trying to get help for it over the last year and a half has left me rather lethargic for a while.

Looking to get back into it. One thing I realized after the accident last year and the crappy repair work is I really do love my shitty Pu.

Anyway, I really did miss this place, my friends here, and the OG's that still post.

We're here man hope you're doing better, I've been trying to get in to see someone myself -> 5 months from screening to appointment is ridiculous still waiting here. We need to revive the meme threads in the members section, I always found it good for a pick me up

That's how it was for me. I called for months to no avail. No Dr's were taking new patients, or they wouldn't get back to me. It wasn't until I called a suicide hotline that I got anywhere and sent to a county funded clinic.

I feel for you, it sucks bro, but there is a better tomorrow. I promise you. No matter how low or dark you may feel.

Today I was going through my mess of a garage. I have been trying to reorganize it to make it easier to work in.

I found so much stuff!!!! Aquamist kit, poly bushings, gauges, so much excite!

I threw out a bunch of trash I had been holding on to. Including my old clutch and flywheel.

Fun fact: I weighed the Fidanza flywheel before throwing it in, and today I weighed the OEM dual mass.
Fidanza - 10.6 lbs
OEM Dual Mass - 26.2 lbs

No joke. One of the best upgrades for this car.

Miss you, bro. It seems that many of us here need to work on our mental health

Clearing the garage of stuff you know will never be used is therapeutic. Just donated an engine brace and fender roller to a friend who is more active locally than me so out it went.

Stick around and I'm a phone call or text away.

Miss you too bro! Big time!
