Phate's Shop Build to Bring in a 5-Axis Mill!

So the compressor shed gets pretty warm when it's closed. I've been running it with the door open, but that's pretty loud and I want to fix that. So, I got a log to see just how warm it gets:

Temp.jpg

Started everything at 1pm, ambient was ~70°F. 90 minutes later the interior of the compressor shed was nearly 160°F LOL.

So I'm looking at thermostat controlled switches and some powered vent fans. More to come.

All Phate needs is to have neighbors thinking hes got a personal nuclear reactor powering his shop shit. Though he could probably use more power for spin balancing those engine blocks.

I ended up getting a plug in thermostat switch thing. I did test that today and it's pretty spot on for temp reading, and it's dead easy to set up.

And a single powered vent fan. If one doesn't do it, I'll probably just add another.

Yeah, you can definitely hear the mill whine at high RPM's from pretty far away. I haven't really done any major material removal to where it's loud, but you can hear it humming away through some cuts.

The compressor is WAY louder with the door open, so I want to get this fixed in a hurry.

And in other news, it was starting to get pretty toasty in here since it's now summer and I have lots of heat sources going on the daily. 36k BTU mini split has been installed and it is SO GOOD. Dead quiet, and the fan puts out some serious airflow. I can't explain how fantastic it is to sit out here and not be sweating.

I bought this months ago when they were having a black Friday sale, but it's been really mild weather up until now. Glad I got it, though.

Had some woes recently.

A couple weeks ago my little Harbor Freight bandsaw died, so I replaced it with a larger unit. Until you get into some pretty large bandsaws, they're all pretty much from the same shop or two in either China or Taiwan. So I ended up with this Kaka brand (lol) 9x12" unit that so far is awesome.

I made some leveling feet and a chip/coolant fence for it and also got a roller conveyor to hold long stock up.

Most recently, my compressor has stopped compressing. It still runs but doesn't keep up and runs 100% of the time I'm machining anything. It's under warranty and will be repaired, but I've ordered a rotary screw compressor and refrigerated air dryer that will be here Monday. I will likely keep the piston compressor as a backup, at least for a while. I'll get some pictures of the new hardware once it's all installed.

Do you think the compressor is just not heavy duty enough for what you are doing and wire out or just randomly broke?

It's rated at 50% duty cycle, and that's where it was almost always running. So prob not heavy duty enough. The company that's doing the repair said they've had a ton of warranty claims on these pumps made by MAT over the past year, so maybe they're having some quality issues, too.
