Possible Throttle Issue

I have a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3 that has been bulletproof for 40000km, recently my check engine light came on while highway driving. The original code was IAC so we replaced an O-Ring which we thought was creating a vacuum leak. the check engine light then came back on and we had a mechanic use his code scanner we got codes from the accelerator pedal, throttle body, and idle air control.

The RPMs increase from idle 600-800 up to 1100-1500 immediately after I shift into gear i can't find anyone with any information on how this would happen.

thanks,

Year/Make/Model: 2008 Mazdaspeed 3
Mileage: 145000KM
Location: Engine/Transmission
Concern: The RPMs increase from idle 600-800 up to 1100-1500 immediately after I shift into gear
DTC's: Acellerator Pedal, Throttle Body, IAC
Modifications: Cold Air Intake, Suspension
ECU/Tuning Software: Hypertech
Tuner: Hypertech
Is the concern intermittent? Consistent
Can you duplicate the concern? repeatable every time
Recent Repairs: 30km ago Throttle body / Gasket
Correction:

You’ll probably get some hassle about using Hypertech… Likely unrelated but maybe you could restore the factory tune while you troubleshoot this issue.

My initial thought was a potential throttle body issue, and reading that you had it replaced 30k ago makes me wonder. Why was it replaced?

I had an issue 2 years ago that eluded me for weeks. Got various codes including something with the accelerator position. I replaced the pedal, swapped out another throttle body (twice), and did lots of testing. It ended up being just a weak connection on one or more of the wires of the connector going to the throttle body.

how old is your battery? for some reason when the battery starts to get weak it screws with the electric throttle on these cars

sadly i don't have the exact details behind the replacement but I have heard that this tune might chew through throttle bodies (removed the accessport/tune today). ill go through and do a deep dive on the wiring/battery see if its just an electrical issue.

Hi, I literally made my account a few minutes ago to respond to your thread. I'm about to purchase a tuned & built (but 80k+ miles on the block) '07 MS6 on Saturday that has a similar issue to the OP. I'm not sure if the last owner did any replacements to try and fix this issue, but shifting into 1st brings the RPMs up, just like you described, and triggers a CEL if left idling in 1st for too long. Driving for a while makes it disappear.

Besides changing all fluids, coils, plugs, filters, etc., this CEL will be the first thing I tackle when I take delivery of the car on Saturday. We might have the same issue so I'll keep an eye on this thread for your updates and post up my own when I have them.

Welcome to the forum. Im always happy to see another MS6 show up here. Once you pick the car up, post a new thread for sure and we can help you through your issues with your car.

over the last few weeks I've tried a couple things and no luck

tried a new battery, no fix
retrained my computer to the sensors, no fix
going to have a local shop reset my tune to factory and hopefully that saves us
(my sneaking suspicion is that the hypertech tune just screws with the throttle and controlling rpms)

Previous owner of mine thought the tune might have something to do with it, too. Let us know how you make out

Didn't forget about you. Still going at it. I will say I found a lot of potential vac leaks and bad or damaged gaskets. My issues could be due to that. Hoping to be up in about a month so I'll post back. You have any luck?

Late reply, but could help a future search. The fix was either the new Damond base map tune or one of the IM runner vac leaks (really think it was this). I also swapped trans fluid and replaced pivot shaft seal, but I don't think that was the fix, either. Idle RPM at operating temp sits around 1000-1100 rpm. No more climb when shifting to first.
