RockAuto undertray for Mazdaspeed3

That's true, if it comes down to it I can always make a spacer to make it flush.
That's one solution, true. But it's then not out-of-the-box ready, which some people don't like (myself included). But why the dislike, mayne?

Bottom line: Rock Auto made a mistake indicating that Dorman for Pu's as a direct replacement. It isn't. It's not even listed under all the Pu years, which points to the fact it's a mistake.

Whoop! My bad. Must have fat fingered that one. But yes you are correct rock auto is incorrect, and I didn't even realize until I cut it up so oh well. What's done is done I guess. I'll just modify it to make it work. I planned on modifying it anyway to get the aluminum plates on so I wasn't entirely expecting out of the box ready.

Well this rockauto tray is crap on the genpu. So anyone considering ordering this and has a pu I would look into other options. I'm hoping I can still return this thing even though I've hacked it up.

Didn't trust the info in my thread, huh? ;) Joking aside, that's exactly how it went with me, too.
Sorry about your luck, man. GL with a Rock Auto return if you modified the part. I got the same exact Dorman Rock Auto sells from Amazon and had zero issues returning it, even with all of my hacking, drilling, significantly enlarging the oil filter hole, etc. I still got a full refund. Did I mention that I <3 Amazon's customer service?

For anyone else considering this on a Genpu, read this:

Well to be honest I didn't see your thread until I had already ordered it. I know it's shitty, but I'm probably not going to tell them I hacked it up, I'm just going to send it back and hope for the best. Then if they question me I'll gladly explain I modified it because I had assumed it would fit properly because their catalog told me it was an exact fit for my car so I had assumed I would not need to return it.

Your best bet is that if their system indicated that specific part for your specific year/VIN, then it's their mistake, not yours. You can claim that you thought some modification may be necessary, but as you got into it, you realized their system in fact indicates the wrong part for your exact car year, if that's how it happened. The huge gap between the front shield and it, and the lack of standoffs compared to the OEM piece are tell-tale signs it's not for Pu's.

Thankfully this went easier than expected.
Excellent. As long as their system shows it's the correct part (even if it isn't) it goes a LOT easier. Ask me how tough it is when you KNOW it's the right part, but their system doesn't show this. I had a nightmare with them about this over front strut mounts. They stick by their catalogue no matter what, even though it's been proven to me multiple times that it has errors. They hide behind their policies. I had to escalate to a supervisor and spend 30 minutes on the phone with them convincing them that their info was incorrect to get a remedy. It was ridiculous. Terrrrrrrrible customer service when you fall into a catalogue black-hole, for real....

Can't find one for the genpu.... Anyone know the rockauto PN for that? Went thru a bunch of their menus, and tried le góoglé, no dice

Appreciate the link, i know the oem mazda one is out there... i was more hoping rockauto hasa genpu, oem style, rigid, with metal bar type shield for $30, like they do for gen1. If not, thats too bad, ill end up getting the CS one down the road, i suppose.
