RWD 1st Gen

If you're going to RWD you'll want to set the engine farther back into the vehicle for better weight distribution.

A Miata trans isn't that bad. I will say that my 6 speed (01-04 NB) has very close first and second gear ratios but everything after that is fine. I'm sure I could wind out the speedo if I wanted to but I don't have anywhere to do that legally.

Are you going to tub the rear end? What's this car being set up for? Drag racing? Drift? Or just making it RWD for the hell of it?

Purpose built road course and hopefully still kinda street legal. I am going to tube at least the lower, cut out the rear floor pan, drop the fuel tank. That way I can set it up to take whatever subframe will match the wheelbase, and have completely custom mounting points for the subframe. I would most likely have to relocate the rear shock towers as well, though I know the RS uses a similar suspension set up as ours, but adapted for RWD. Hopefully won’t have to move it too far. My goal is for kind of a sleeper, so I’d like to if possible keep the interior carpets and some of the other trim goodies to make it look like your everyday white speed, till you see the meat in the back. Luckily since I’ll most likely rube front and rear I can weld in a 6pt cage and she’ll be nice and stiff

When I do the rear I have to widen the track by at least .5” to fit the RS sub. Might as well go 2” wider right? Go wide or go home

The MAZDASPEED and RS KW coils looks very similar. I wonder if they would let me do a half n half kit

heres a screenshot of the duratec/eco/disi bell dimensions looking at rear of block. the file is a dxf and it wont let me upload it here. units are in mm and measured from the left most alignment dowel . larger holes are because im using countersunk fasteners there. the others are not threaded on the block.
