Saw a Nice Speed6... good CL price... Easy repair, just a little Rod knock

So....since my 07 Speed 3 was a Craigslist killer deal. Thought that this Speed6 would be a easy repair of one cylinder rod Knock. CL Ad data was honest and detail descriptive. Seller talk went well. Rent trailer....drive time would be a whole day trip to Port Angeles on Olympic Peninsula.
Freaking great roads if you get a chance.
Oddly the easiest U-Haul loaded car carrier trip was a straight, no dogleg, no swerving, loaded experience.
Return with prize...Cosmetically very nice, low rust for area of operation chassis bones. Interior very good.
Tint, stickers, wheels/tire slammed combo sucks.
Started only for enough time to hear Rod Knock, one cylinder sounds...hopefully....hahahaha..
Load on to trailer and never ran it again.
The treasure hunt begins. Of course the goodies on top are a little worn out, holy shit VVT !!!
ARP Head studs...wait this has built? parts maybe?
So yes as I left top off, went down...
Oil Pan was easy, great goods.... Windage tray for Balancer delete, ARP rod bolts, Molnar Rods, peeking to see Non OEM pistons........<<<<<<<SCORE>>>>>>>>!!!!
But now on to the damage....Yes #1 ROD was Knocking.....Holy crap, NO rod bearing at all. Well in bottom of pan yes....Nice shiny precious metals, even a oil squirter...Yeppy.
Next update will be bits and pieces of parts buying, trying to stay cheap.. I know first gear works, but everything?.... Only moved forward onto trailer.....

exhaust manifold with vband down pipe and big Turbo, guy had an act clutch on there too. What turbo is that? Wonder if it's worth a rebuild.

Nice! It's always good to get a car for cheap to find out that it has performance stuff you couldn't see. What do you think you'll do with the motor? Just throw in a new crank and bearings then reassemble?

Here is the "build sheet" remember this is the perspective of the owner who was not the builder...Just the last before me owner.
Very nice juicy stuff, what was listed is in place. Upon disassembly though, obvious to see the Diagnosis for repair was way off.
Some very important sensors that speeds need were broken, and no additional fueling for the turbo size.
The owner said.....was getting a first runs for tuner to start on his tune. AP was included and I upgraded and is fine... Well non running engine, just power on to ECU communication and correct handshaking.

My first plans are block deck, head deck, bores deglazed. Hot tank wash head, block, pan, timing side cover. With the amount of debris in pan and general filth in block, using my solvent tank was not enough to remove the fragments.
New crank, one new rod, rering, King Bearings, Cosmic head gasket. Mid priced timing components, sadly mid priced gaskets (rock auto is my goto) and some better quality things are in short or no supply. Resurface flywheel, new ceramic plate, pressure plate. Sadly needed new radiator, ac evaporator, was a bumper car some time in its past and the existing while "OK" no need to gamble.

Trying to keep costs down to at least find out if the rest of this project car works. Buying for don't do it twice, try to minimize costs though.

So here is the crank. Yes ford racing product, slightly lighter, yes much cheaper than OEM. Standard size journals. Measured everything and will work. Best pricing with shipping was from eliteracefab.com at 409.00 to the door. I highly recommend eliteracefab. I find they are competitive in pricing their communications on in stock, shipping, tracking, delivery EXCELLENT.

That was the first plan. Until I measured crank journal and found 0.028 missing. Was very surprised.. looked for oversized bearings for ours not many sizes .. Unlike V8's. Rod was worn completely on top bottom of journal not bolt sides... looks oval. So rod replacement, just head off..Super cheap? I had just finished the head off rering of my other speed and the out of pocket costs were known ($$crying$$) Then the head cam journals were on the edge of no good, and with seeing bits and pieces throughout the engine.. Was at that point .... Stop the destruction, or make worse. That VVT chunk of missing metal was in head, didn't find until head off and degreasers...The amount of crap that I found using brake cleaner in head oil passages, holy shit. It was a eye opener.

My 65th bday gifts arrived..$657.86 worth of machining. Amazing what a soda blast, machine wash does. Head decked .010 was two passes, PO had used a "sander" shocking. Block deck was .010 also, brush hone deglazed. Ports soda blasted, same for gasket surfaces on valve cover, timing cover, pan. Now picture overload? Let me know if you want this much detail...Please advise if overloading.
Valve cover will be Gold. Head Bare. Block, timing side cover chevy/gm orange/red. Now the question for the audience............What color oil pan?......... Red?... Gold?... Black?...
My preference was bare (or Black) but once I saw freaking cleanliness. Thought to allow you all a vote.
Body is Black cherry mica in most spots. Will be repainted if this $$blackhole$$ in the end is how I want it in minds eye.

I think the timing cover being red next to the gold is going to look weird. Unless you're a 49ers fan.

Why not just paint the block and cover a nice dark gray? That would offset the look while giving good visibility for leaks.

Po had a sander what a classic lol! While I love the look of a black oil pan, keeping it bare or silver/ gold makes it really easy to see leeks

OMG! Yes my Mom has been a Niners and Giants fan since they came to WestCoast!!! She converted my Dad (Black and Silver) to a Niner when they disappeared to LA in the night. They owned a Buick >>White with Niner Red (fur) interior and Gold cloth trim added by Dad... She tried to give it to me when she traded it in for a Honda Civic. At that time I had a new 08 MZ3 which I still own, Completely Stock.
Naked aluminium is grey to me, spent so much time with 60's-70's-80's Honda M/C that is kinda default. Timing cover being red...I seem to spend so much time looking up at these motors on a crawler....Need to something to sooth my emotions when I am again working on some thing.

At the rate of spending in parts, would be a good reminder. I will take that all or none under consideration! Especially if I go over budget for L19 studs, ARP2000's will have to do. . At least Cosmetic head gasket is shipping. This time last year was a long wait..for the other engine.

Yes a progress report is due. Honestly I want it running before I say...it's done. Right, so it's a unknown ownership thrasher. So just to say. TurboSport vta damnit...was chasing (will maybe not done) lots of running issues. But I now know that (previous owner setting) if dialed down on soft....wait for it... It bypasses just enough off seat. So of course just dial harder and GD, Car 1 dumbo 0. Actually runs, still a lot of other hanging . Yes stock tmic just to get air path with known state. But I have more news in the future.
