Seibon Carbon Fiber Hood

Paid my MS3 off back in April, and 8 days later all HAIL broke loose.

Car was garage kept up until that month when I moved back home. Caused 5200 in body damage, fucking sucks.

I had not planned on doing any cosmetic mods to my PU, because I still didn't feel like I was fast enough yet to spend money on parts that didn't add power. Lol. Plus rice bloats me.

Anyway seeing my car beat up, made me realize how much I love my genpu, and took for granted it's sexiness

Body shops here are booked until 2017 for the most part, amd it is a real bummer.

Well, I decided I want my car to look better than before, so I have been buying some cosmetic mods (rice) to hold me over until my car gets fixed.

S204 lip, JBR flappy flaps, and Seibon CF hood.

Sorry for the long back story. Now for the reason for this thread.

I am going to do a weight comparison of the OEM hood vs. the Seibon hood, strictly for all those guys looking to shed weight. I don't think the price $715 is worth the rice, but if it sheds some weight, could be useful for the hardcore race guys. Hood comes in Monday, not sure when I am going to swap and weigh. I will update when I do, if people are interested.

TL;DR

Car got beat up by HAIL Mary, bought a CF hood, gonna compare weight between OEM and CF.
 
Gonna paint it or go for the bare CF look? From what I've heard regarding the price of a new OEM hood, you're better off going aftermarket if you need a replacement, anyway. If my juan hood ever gets all beat up, I know I'm gonna swap it for one of DGM's scooped ones.
 
Mine is vis, but carbon as well. Not a huge difference in weight, but it looks good.

I think it is gonna look awesome. I am not personally concerned about weight, but figured some people might be. Plus you know us forum guys, have to see numbers and data.
 
I saw a carbon hatch on ebay. I would think a hatch would have a more weight savings than a hood. I've picked up that hatch without the supports before and it's damn heavy. I couldn't find any info on the weight of the CF hatch but I'm guessing it's pretty light. Only issue you would have to do some wiring and get the glass replaced. You also have to consider that the clear coat will likley fade and you'll need to paint it or clear coat.

My hatch didn't get much damage. They are gonna PDR that. My hood is beat to shit though, so I figured, what the hell.

CF hatch is kinda cool though. I think my limit would be the hood and maybe spoiler.
 
I have been at least contemplating getting a Seibon vented hood for my MS6. They say it doesn't fit the Speed because of the FMIC. But I don't have an FMIC. Some have said the Speed also has different fenders, but I don't know. So ultimately, I have not been able to confirm if it will or won't fit a Speed. And from what I've heard, a CF hood doesn't shave enough weight to be worth the cost. So, I dunno. But it sure looks nice in their pics.
 
You would have to change the fenders and bumper cover to get everything to line up and then you will be limited on wheel and tire size.

Any carbon fiber hood on the market is just a fiberglass hood with a top layer of carbon for looks. If you really like the look just wrap the factory hood
 
Actually, I don't like the carbon looks. I was thinking about a vented hood. But, nevermind. Thanks for the help.
