Well making a bit of progress on making my own fmic crash bar.



After installing the bumper to check clearances, the bumper fit but I need to bring it in about half an inch or so to clear everything with the front bar on. I will post more pics as I get more done. I am also cutting the center brace coming down from the hood latch area to make it shorter allowing for the higher crash bar.

I also need to make the small brackets that come off of it to bolt to the rad support. Only issue with that is that the bolts all broke while removing them from the rad support. Not sure what to do about it just yet lol

Haven't had much time between work, school and family and new baby but the crash bar is coming along. Will be making a lower bracket from inside lower frame bolt area to the lower bolt hole on rad support.

I cut the center support and brought it up and in closer to the car to bolt up. Bolted it near the front because the material I'm using isn't the square tubing I wanted but rather is like a heavy duty unistrut. Hopefully after painting her she looks pretty good for a long while!

What's up fellas.... So I haven't been on for a while which isn't like me but had lots of life things going on and also possibly hurt my speed. Was racing a coyote mustang (NA) and possibly screwed up my car pretty badly. Grabbed 4th gear and was winning and all of a sudden my car just free revved out of no where. I shoved the clutch in and double checked I was in gear and gave it gas again and another free rev.

Car ended up dying without me realizing it at first and I came to a stop after about a 1/4 mile of rolling at 100mph hoping the mustang guy didn't see me pull of the highway in shame haha Needless to say I have no money to fix it so I towed it home and haven't gathered myself enough to find out how bad it is.

Oil splattered in the engine bay or at least some type of fluid. Can't see anything obvious but haven't looked underneath yet just above. Might go ahead and jack it up tomorrow to look and see. I'm hoping it is something other than my motor as that would suck seeing as how it is built and shouldn't have had that happen at the power level it was at.

I'm not for sure lol I went to start it just to see and I just heard the starter run but no cranking sound from the motor lol What does that sound like to you?

I do remember putting it into 6th gear and it did grab and I let it drag to slow me down a bit so I shifted to 5th and noticed the clutch felt much heavier than normal and the car was dead. The gears did seem to grab though

Means the flywheel isn't attached to the crank. Put it in first, clutch out and bump it, see if the car moves. That will be your absolute answer there.

Well boys I found our issue...... My crank pulley bolt came loose apparently....My life.. I hope that it didn't trash my motor. Looks like at the very least I am redoing the timing chain. AGAIN.

That is probably wishful thinking but I did have stronger valves and everything so one can hope lol

I had the same wishful thinking. Turns out, they're just as bendy as the OEM valves. RIP to both our engines at the same time.

I'm sure there will be some pics to come but might be a bit. I am going to just bite the bullet and pull the head off and see what the heck happened I guess. Hoping a stock head fixes it and obviously a new timing setup then back up and going!

I felt the timing chain through the valve cover and it felt tight with no slack so at least it isn't off the sprockets or anything wild lol

My VVT actuator failed and my timing chain snapped. Damage wasn’t too bad — just 2 bent valves, bad VVT actuator and broken timing chain. The thing that sucks is the $1000 worth of gaskets, seals, fluids, tools, etc that I need to replace $400 worth of parts, not to mention the work it takes to take apart the whole front end to get the head off.

Dang..... Well I will most likely be in the same boat. I can't find anyone with a engine borescope to check that way so looks like I will be pulling off the head as well. My dilemma is that I needed to do a clutch job so at this point I probably will just pull my motor for the second time and do the clutch while I fix the motor.

If nothing else I will buy a used head from someone else and just use it if mine is pretty rough. Just sucks to pull it to fix the motor AND the clutch lol

Your loose crank bolt has nothing to do with your free revving grenaded trans. Your flywheel is screwed as well as at least 4th gear. Seems you have multiple issues.

Good to know and it is definitely seeming that way. Maybe my motor free revved from breaking the trans and my internals aren't blown. That would be a better option imo lol

I'd highly doubt your trans is broken at the power level you're at ...

The flywheel on the other hand. Yes. That would make sense ,If the bolts backed out

That's kind of what I thought but who knows what happened. The only answer I'm finding is that I will have to pull it all and find out lol My clutch was old and a stock ish setup and I had actually thought I felt it slip a while back in boost in 5th gear.

Probably just my fault for being in boost in 5th but still gave me a warning it was getting close to time to replace and upgrade. I had a fidanza luk combo but the luk clutch disc was old and the pressure plate was stock. I feel like for whatever reason it is probably related to the crank bolt though somehow..

So your car died on you correct? If anything I would try by tighten the crank bolt up and then try to spin the engine by hand. If it turns freely then you can rule out the engine.
