I owned an OW '14 ST3. The lease was up. I could have bought it for 16700. I would have had to add a warranty since these only have a 3 year warranty. That would have cost 1500 or so. So I was looking at around 18500-19000. For 60 months the payment was 340 a month. At the end I would have a 7 year old car.
There were no WRX's the way I like them around me. (white Limited), so they wanted to order me one, with a wait time of 6 to 8 weeks. Their lease finance rates weren't the greatest anyway.
Golf R? 36 to 40 so I was looking at over 500 a month as a payment.
I got a great price on a new '16 ST3 in Kona with a sunroof, I added a 5 year warranty and got 1.9% financing. So, for 100 bucks more a month versus the one I had, i'll own this one instead.
The good.
Great handling, like really great. I could step the back out at will.
Great seats.
Good interior amenities.
Cheap to own.
The bad.
No balls unless it's tuned with at least an OTS
No real LSD, just a bullshit torque vectoring thingy. My right front tire spent it's whole life playing catch up.
A pretty dangerous rev stutter, it would die randomly and sometimes at the worst possible time. (like making a left turn in front of someone, you try to time it and instead it dies, right in the path of the on coming car.) Not addressed because they couldn't duplicate it at the dealership. It wasn't on the recall list either.
Long story longer. It made sense to me. It's no fully bolted gen1 speed, but....nothing is right now.
