Throttle Body Porting - Yes or No?

Is this worth doing on our stock TB or should we wait for CS to come out with the 72MM TB. Overall, is porting the TB worth it?

To be honest I'm pretty sure porting the throttle body isn't really worth it unless you are looking for big power and run larger IC pipes. Just like porting the head, not really worth it unless you're looking for big power.

It's said that 650whp is the start of real power. I believe you can put porting heads with the tb because just a little clean up, charges the flow and results in a decent way.

Interesting. I'd really be interested to see how much more flow is made with a ported head at "minor" power levels vs a non ported head. From everything I've read, the gains are minimal but I've never actually seen the data to back that up. But I can't see a throttle body being worth porting unless you run larger IC pipes and are aiming for 550+. Again I can be completely wrong though.

We are on the same boat. I've been doing some studies on different platforms and with a machinist...they concluded that everything is situational and varies on every platform bigger bowl work etc means bigger valve set up needing a bigger intake along with the right oil and fueling. As a daily, it can be interesting within the right cooling set up

I will pose this question: anyone here actually had their TB ported? I had mine done on my 300ZX and it kicked ass. There is a shop that will port it and make a new butterfly for $125, a seemingly good price. I would be cool with scrounging up a salvaged TB and send it to them but I`d rather not piss away money if our cars don`t respond well to it.

That's what I was planning. I was going to send in an extra TB and compare everything and see what Hypnotic have to say.

I'd personally wait for that CorkSport 72mm throttle body. Initial testing looks rather promising I have to say.

I really can't imagine being able to port a stock throttle body much larger than it is already... Also, plenty of people are making power on stock TB so if I were you, I'd go along with a stock TB and then when it comes out, scoop it up and reap the large TB benefits!

But when is that gonna happen? #2weeks?

I got a TB for cheap so I am going to test the results and see how much of a difference it is. Well, not in performance but it measurement of course then maybe throw it on (if there is any real difference) and see if Hypnotic needs to do any tuning adjustments.

With the CS TB coming out, I still want to test the porting of the stock TB and the flow results to the CS TB

On a stock IM I don't think we'd see much difference. On a manifold of equal size to the TB I'd expect to see at most 100-200rpm decrease in spool and maybe 10whp mid range w/ nothing up top. Reducing pumping losses is beneficial no matter what.

It would be cool if you flow tested a stock unit, ported it then flow test again to get an idea on how much it flows. This would provide empirical data, if the head can't ingest that much air at once it obviously (theoretically) shouldn't have any benefit. Doing that would be more useful than guessing.

I think the general idea is that at lower power levels it is cheaper and easier to up the boost. Once you start pushing serious air the little changes will be magnified
