Valve Cover Breather

I have a spare gen2 valve cover that I'm gonna be selling possibly soon if you're in the market

So I talked to one of the guys at CFM Performance and he informed me that they make the the breather cap for Gen 2's and that they added a mesh screen inside of the check valve on the breather caps you gen one owners would have to use but that SP63 is working on some sort of "fix" for gen ones since even with the mesh they got oil to pass through on their test car. I know they have posted on their site that they are working on a fix for a while but you can always take your valve cover to a machine shop and have them weld in a baffle like what comes on the gen 2 valve cover quite easily. Like 30 seconds worth of work.

Without the gen two baffle the valve train can throw oil at the breather. Any condition where the crankcase is pressurized and pushing air out of the breather will allow this oil to escape. In a situation where the crankcase is pressurizes any check valve will be open and unable to stop the flow of oil. A breather assembly which has baffles integrated is the only hope short of switching valve covers

Is there anything on the inside of the gen one valve cover that you could attach a plate to? Anyone have a picture of the inside?

Well you may be able to just add a plate off of the existing one and get slightly longer screws. But if the screws fall out...

Funny enough, I have a valve cover on my desk and have looked at this. Maybe I will spend some time on it now that I caught up on other projects for people.

Not to bring up an old discussion, but I've been searching for a Gen 2 valve cover breather and it seems that they are somewhat hard to find.

It came highly recommended whenever you go past 24 PSI. The only one I was able to find on a goggle search doesn't seem to be for sale anymore because every time I select it the "buy" option disappears.

Anyone know of somewhere else we can get these?

I saw earlier in this post that someone was using a Mustang one on a Gen Two. Before I order it I just wanted to make sure that there was no other choices out there for the MS3 Gen 2.

Those are the only ones unless you DIY

Either Mustang or Focus oil caps, one is threaded and the other has a twist lock pattern. I forget which is which.

SP63 was getting them from CFM for a while at first. I'm not sure if they make their own now or not.

Weird. Now CFM gets them from SP63?

The SP63 one that says it is specifically for the Mazdaspeed 3 Gen 2 can't be ordered for some odd reason. I went directly to the website to order it and when you select the Generation of vehicle the Order/Buy option disappears.

I've emailed and called the company, but I haven't heard anything yet.
[doublepost=1478032581][/doublepost]Just got a reply via email from Speed Performance. They said they do have them in stock.

I guess Chrome and Firefox don't like their website because I decided to try Windows Edge (not a huge fan of it so I don't even use it) and it worked and allowed me to order it.

Would explain how to get it from CFM for your gen2 vc but it's already been explained several times in this thread alone.

View attachment 2756 Ran a CFM breather on my gen1 valve cover (have had a gen2 valve cover in storage with a CFM breather waiting to go on but wanted to test this anyway) and I'm currently on a 20k mile motor with 15psi basemap. After 2 weeks of basic spirited driving and short 2nd and 3rd gear pulls on 15psi I got oil on my valve cover and on passenger side heat shield on firewall. After 1.5 weeks I noticed the filter was black, and also notice I have the vent tube VTA'd with a K&N filter to further assist with venting blow by that I installed at same time but even that didn't help. Just my trial results with that suggestion :)
What happened to the old motor with the GTX2867r? Did it let go?
