Anyway I pulled the vc and cleaned up the gaskets and mating surfaces, hopefully that will fix it. Might need a new gasket set tho, idk. Guess we'll see if this happens again or not.

New gasket is pretty cheap just make sure when you put it on you steer clear of the exhaust cam end that is super sharp and can cut your brand new gasket..... You might have over tq'd it too so that it was not sealing right, the VC does not take much tq.

My guess is I had it overtightened, knowing my usual tendency to try and get every bolt as fucking tight as possible. This time I just hit them all to hand snug using a a small 1/4 drive. I would have changed the gasket if I had a new one on hand but taking the vc apart was sort of spur of the moment thing.

Oh hey, just a small update --

No more spark blowout since redoing the valve cover, so I think it must have just been an overtorqued gasket. Also no sign of any new transmission fluid leak; we moved houses in June and there have been zero drops on the new garage floor, so I'm considering that to be further evidence that the cheapo diy MSO transmission breather mod is effective. Gotta love the easy fixes.

So, uh, while I have everyone's attention... anyone tryn'a get themselves into a built motor Speed3? Daily driver reliable? Or know anyone who might be interested?

And, she's gone to a new owner. He's local to me, seems really chill and excited to get into a complete build. I got a Good Feeling Vibe from him that he'll take care of the car well enough, but definitely still enjoy it like it should be enjoyed. He asked good questions and has been researching Speeds so I think he'll be a good steward. Told him to let me know if he's ever working on the car and needs a hand, so hopefully I'll still get to turn a wrench or two on her in he future. For now, on to the next one.
