Who’s Runnin’ What

Would you go all out if building the motor or save a bit to hope for a cheap turbo upgrade?

Alright, so I’m planning my build for the spring, and can’t decide what internals to run. I definitely know (money allowing) I will always want more power. I’m stuck finding the most affordable, yet dependable, forged internals.
That being said.... What setup are you running and how much power can the internals/ setup you have handle and/or are currently making.
@VTMongoose you said you’re motor is loose even for 2618’s and is still solid right? Post pics if you got em’!

what do you mean by "Less Built Motor w/cheap turbo upgrade" whats a cheap turbo upgrade? s2? s3? i think most go with some form of turbo upgrade before building the block. whats a less built motor vs a fully built motor? does that mean its not sleeved ? or are you talking about different piston types like 2618 vs 4032? at the end of the day its all about your goals. if you want to make 800whp better build that block as hardcore as you can, and run your k04 until you can afford a proper turbo. if you just want to have fun, hangout in the mid 400's or low 500's then a mildly built block with a decent size turbo will do it. factor in a fuel system too cause i dont care how strong your block is, youre gonna make 0 WHP when you run out of fuel.

By “less built” I mean not building to hold 800hp but more like 500... I am just looking to see what power other have ran with what internals. I was planning to run Mahle 4032’s with Manley rods. The rest of the motor to stay mostly stock with the exception of some mild port and polish.

focus on the block, get a turbo that fits budge, tune and be happy. I am at like 300 on the original motor. When it goes, I don't plan to go all out. Just a motor and keep the rest the same.

if youre looking for around 500 hp thats a reasonable goal for sure, and shouldnt take much to get you there if you have a half decent turbo setup and e85

You will need to get all the cylinders checked. Most likely you will need a re-bore and re-hone. Get your crankshaft checked if it's still in specs and get it balanced.

What I would do:

88mm pistons (Not Wiseco OTS. The pistons of your choice will be good for a DD)
Manley rods
OEM rod bearings
OEM main bearings
OEM Main bolts
OEM Head bolts
OEM Gasket sets
Refresh your head
Keep your balance shaft if you want it to be your daily (I deleted mine)

and you should be good to go.

I’m hoping to find a used S4. That is my goal anyways

Will OEM be any cheaper than buying Clevite bearings you think? That is what I was planning to buy.
