Zoom Zoom Boom

My engine finally went after 178k miles of being completely stock. I am looking for the most cost-effective way to make this a reliable daily driver again. I see a ton of the imported engines from Japan, but they all seem to be gen 1 based on outside pictures. What is the best/quickest way to drive this car again?

JDM motors don't usually get good maintenance they can be hit or miss. Used can be hit or miss. I bought 2 used motors with compression tests and videos showing it.. Yet 1 had a broken VVT actuator, both had worn out rod bearings, plugged oil control rings. 1 had pitted exhaust valves in the cylinder head.

Quick and cost effective would be a used motor.. but there's more risk with it being bad then your average motor.

Rebuild your current motor if possible. You don't have to go fancy if you don't want to..

3rd option. 2.5L bottom end from a fusion, mazda 3 ect with your stock cylinder head on it. Not 100% direct swap, takes a few extra things to make it work. definitely cost effective with how cheap those motors are used, but I wouldn't call it quick if you haven't done it before. I wouldn't recommend having your average auto shop do it either..

If you do decide to do a 2.5, don't trust it for power levels beyond stock Also, using a dexos oil would likely have prevented that blowup.

Sorry to hear that, What exactly went boom?
It's knocking so I can only assume it spin a bearing. It has been having an oil consumption issue for quite some time. The turbo is not leaking, which is surprising, so I think it was just tired and ready to go. I ended up buying a truck over the weekend, so I will end up buying a graveyard performance short block eventually.

Shitty builds, stolen ideas, suppliers and parts (from customers), lots of excuses and possibly coordinating coverups with tuner(s).
This is just what I know about from talking to people asking for help.
