Hey all, i'm bored at work and figured i'd start writing a build thread. This isn't going to be super in detail, but I just want people to know what I have going on.
Bought my car used with 1 owner in Brighton, MI with 36k on the clock. First car I have financed so it was a little hectic. (pic when it was stock as hell)
I wasn't working a very high paying job when I got this car. Almost every paycheck would go towards this thing (living with parents rent free, thanks mom and dad). I was coming from Miata's and before this has 2 of them. An old 91 that I got into my first accident with (not my fault), and a 94 with the 1.8 that was stripped, BC coils, Wilwood front brakes, roll bar, full exhaust, the works. It was a track car that I daily drove for almost a year and a half.
First mod was obviously HPFP internals and an AP that I got from Cobb using the Affirm option (again, I was broke and excited for this car). After that, I got in touch with Rob at Hypnotic to really start getting involved with this car.
Fast forward a few months or so. Intake, HPFP, AP, ended up getting a CP-e Triton and an ATP catless DP to give it some rumble and to breathe a little easier (can't get picture to save). Then things started getting serious. New job, more money, and more time and focus to really think about what I wanted to do.
I was out with my GF getting ice cream local to us and all of a sudden went to put it in 6th and no go. Couldnt get into any gear and could smell nothing but clutch. Ended up towing the car to a Suburban Mazda dealer by me and that was a nightmare I don't even want to get into. Had it towed again to where I originally bought the car and was diagnosed immediately as clutch failure by my favorite tech and fellow Speed enthusiast.
I was not financially ready for this, so I was scrambling. Went with an OEM and Fidanza combo, figured i'd upgrade while I was in there.
Yadda yadda few months or so later I went onto E85 to try something new and was instantly hooked.
This is what REALLY gave me the modding bug. Just the increase in power from this alone was enough to really get me going. Mod after mod, I got this going.
Here is where it gets real.
The highlight of it all in my eyes.
Full Race vertical flow FMIC. Priced so good I couldn't pass it up. After that came the turbo. BNR S4v2 from Edge
Grimmspeed 3 port from a fellow member, HTP 4 inch intake, CS battery box, and all the jazz.
Obligatory picture with me and my friends having a blast getting drunk and using power tools (me being the one getting fondled).
Once that was all done, loaded the base map, and everything worked on first startup. No issues with install whatsoever. It was such a relief. Was also a moment of pride and all that gay shit for me as everything finally came together.
Got new tires
and my Evo wheels powdercoated
Also got a set of KW V3s from a fellow member parting out and some camber plates from CS that I don't have pictures of because I am bad a documenting things.
(btw these tires are noisy as fuck but are oh so sticky. Haven't spun them yet and have had them on for a little bit now).
I don't know exactly what power I am making. I haven't asked for a VDyno from Rob and I haven't done it for myself. We just finished up my tune 2 days ago and this car is a monster. Pulls so hard, but yet so smooth through the gears it's unreal. I estimate it's around ~370/~380 if I was to guess. Not sure, but the butt dyno is pleased (and clenched 99% of the time).
I have a meth kit i'm slowly installing and will be sure to update this thread with more pictures and updates as I go along. I'm sorry this was a terrible start as I hate writing but I wanted to share with everyone what I am working with. Feel free to ask me anything if you're installing something and need a hand! I'll try and lend some experience knowledge if I can.
