This is my current dilemma. I have loaded up my spare block and crank in the hoe. I have the Wiseco pistons and 3 rods. Going to drop it all at the machine shop now to be looked over. If it’s all usable…we’ll do a budget build. I need 1 rod and that’s really it. We’ll see the condition of my oil pump and cylinder head. If those are good I can have a decently built engine for not crazy money.


Other option is just another junkyard special. Not sure

I tend to agree but it’s hard to keep up with these higher powered fucks. Specially the guys who can even drive a little. I have to drive 10/10s to be competitive where as these guys are lifting in places I can’t or my lap time is just fucked. It’s extra work for me and the car

I’ve thought about it but fuck brz’s those are gay and I don’t want to be a cookie cutter idiot. I see 30 out of 40 cars are brz’s. I couldn’t do it. Plus those engines are 5k a pop.

The civic just needs a reliable engine package making some acceptable HP. I guess this is part of R&D.

the biggest joke of all is stock engine with 8psi out of a gtx3071 and I’d probably be disqualified immediately for being way too fucking fast. That sounds like I’m full of myself but it’s too true. I could even go up a class or two and still mop the floor.

I still have turbo ptsd from my Mazda days though.

I know there’s time in my driving as well. Theoretical best lap times are always 5-7 tenths off what I pull. I need to perfect my driving

Well. Cylinder head is completely smashed. My only hope of getting the car back together with a friendly budget and quick turn around was if the head was reusable.

Oil pump is probably also throw away. I had a plan for a quick rebuild if the head was ok.

I am beyond frustrated. This is getting ridiculous and I don’t know if I have the mental durability to do this again. These stupid cylinder heads cost so much money. I’m sure my cams are destroyed as well.

Again. I understood the risk and I went ahead anyways so I get it. It is part of stressing an oem block. I know I have bad luck so that is also on my mind. Maybe a curse. Who knows.

I am very disappointed. Very sad. Thoughts are not good right now.

There are no real platforms that interest me currently. I don’t want something big and heavy. As mentioned above my garage is was too small for what I do but I make it work.

I dropped my spare block/crank off at the machine shop today with my rods from my last engine. All 3 rods checked out perfect. I have the new pistons Wiseco sent me. The plan was a sub 2k rebuild but I need a cylinder head now and probably also cams and an oil pump. That’s a lot of cash I just don’t have right now. What a huge let down. I need to just marinate now cause honestly I just want to part out for my haters. They would love it.

I know this is something you don't want to hear, but personally, I would never use critical parts from a lunched engine; just can't ever tell if something might have been overstressed due to the prior pop and isn't showing it.

I had the same thought of course. I also heard those spare engines built using random parts are sometimes the best engines.

other option is china rods on the cheap cheap. But those are probably just as sketchy as using my BC rods

I have the solution. Turbo 4 fox body mustang. That will fit in your garage and the Lima four would laugh at double the power you have right now

Edit check the classes but I think an svo will be in an insane class vs the regular turbo mustang just need a fuel injected one

This said, Matt Farrah spent a ridiculous amount of money on custom everything suspension related to make his fox body handle and it was still slow according to him. That was a next level build

I say get a BMW. An older 3 series or 5 series and race that. You'll go RWD but spare engines can be had for cheap plus they'll handle well. By older I mean you can get a 2012-2016 340i for less than 10k and its an inline 6 turbo. Do the crank hub upgrade and you'll be good to go.

It sucks you keep going through motors with your Honda. Being that you like high revving NA engines, another option would be to do a early 90s Corolla but with a 4AG Silvertop or Blacktop swap. You can also buy a FWD 6 speed transmission that bolts right in too. I had a Silvertop swap in my 91 Celica. Nothing like ITBs from the factory plus a 8.5k redline stock.

If you followed the Formula Atlantic build specs for those engines they put down about 280-300 NA hp revving to 12-13k.

Good job on keeping up with those AWD cars with double your power. That isnt an easy feat considering their weight isnt that much higher than yours.

Honestly that might ba a matt Farrah problem more than anything. 75 versions of every part in the world exist for a fox body so if you can't find the right combination of aftermarket parts to make it handle the way you want you fucked up. Though if he was using a V8 that is a little harder the four is mid engines and basically 50/50 weight balance

I see your points. Very valid. Something for me to consider. The after market is definitely there with that chassis and it’s unique which I like.

The civic is very dialed chassis wise and it’s not even close to fully done up yet. That’s why it’s hard for me to just move on. It’s as competitive as it is because of the chassis not the power.

It’s just starting to kill me with these fucking engines dying. Part of it being competitive is because my engines mods are optimized and my tune is well done not skipping anything. It’s good R&D wise.

I guess this is all part of developing highly strung time attack car on a budget. The part of the shit the internet doesn’t show. It’s expensive for an average dude and I even have some good support and help. Fuck sakes. If i moved state side another solid build would cost half as much
