Building for the road course...again

Spreadsheet is mostly complete. Looking like $12k cad total including taxes, $1500 of misc budget, and including the cost of a custom built exhaust manifold.

all the good brands that made nice ram horn style manifolds don’t exist anymore. PLM has a manifold but they are on the cheaper side and I really don’t need shit cracking back there.

I’ll have the custom manifold made out of whatever material we decided for weight/crack resistance. Mostlikely stainless 321. Inconel came up as an option but it’s typically thin walled and it can crack from vibrations.

I’ll be assembling the motor soon as well as slowly ordering parts over the next few months.

Once the motor is together I’ll do a winter swap in my garage like I did with the Mazda then drive the car to the shop to have the manifold and Downpipe made up.

here we go again lol

Don't cheap out on the exhaust manifold. Track use will destroy it
After speaking with my Honda guy that’s the decision I made. It’s not worth it.

He’s going to build me a custom manifold. We’re going to pick a cool material that won’t be total shit. Manifold will be properly back purged and whatnot. It won’t be cheap but it’ll be a forever piece.

Holy crap that's a good deal. Even if you weren't going to turbo it that could be an investment part lol. Crypto and stock market volatile? Invest in gold/silver? Naw just buy final run parts and sell them for a higher price later.

Haha yea really. I’m sure it’ll be worth something to someone the second they take the webpage down lol

I used to own some Mitsubishi Starions/Chrysler Conquests and I can tell you that once parts are discontinued, especially performance ones, the value increases exponentially. I was able to part my last one out enough to build almost everything in my Miata now.

For real I don't even have a civic and I'm tempted to buy one of those kit's lol

Haha yea it’s a total deal so I jumped on it. The rest of the pieces I need are just standard things so no more crazy deals unfortunately

Little alpha 4c chase action. I had no idea how capable these shits were.

weighs 2450lbs. Makes 237hp 240tq stock. This one had a tune, nitto nt01 tires, and an alignment.

he leaves me in the dust on the straights lol

Spent 6-7 hours at the shop today on this and buddies like “yea probably need another 8 hours to finish that off”

here I was thinking we’re good to go. Fuck me lol he’s got high standards but as he said “this is great for you cause you ain’t paying anything”

I need to do blending work. Make sure all ports are as consistent as humanly possible. Then gasket match. THEN polish it.

so much work lol. i shoulda just left it fuck

After this it’ll go to the machine shop for new valve guides, valve job, and clean up/what not.

Heads off to the machine shop. No eta what so ever.
“Hopefully I have it done before April for you” is what I was told. Great…

the car will sit until the motor is assembled. I’ll put the bottom end together…whenever at this point.

part of me just wants to go source a stock head to bolt on so I can at least get the new motor installed and running. Thoughts on this?? I’d probably just run it as is until I assemble another long block then I’ll use my ported head.

other idea is to just sit and wait. If spring comes and the head isn’t done then I guess I’m running the car as is again for 2023. Mannnnnnnnn

Just grab another stock head. It isn't like they flow horribly. You'll obviously have to tune it twice and install a head twice but is that really that bad?

I just traded a billet oil pump for a spare cylinder head for my car. I'll basically be doing the same as you're doing now.

Yea part of me just wants to grab another head. Put my valve train in it and send it. It’ll still be plenty good enough. You’ve now given me a push here so I think I will.

sucks that they ain’t cheap. $500 is the going rate for one of these heads around here

So I planned to start yanking my motor today. But not without a compression test first…

This fucking things healthy?!
I was literally about to pull the motor but now…

im thinking I should just leave it. I should do my titanium exhaust, install cams, throttle body. Retune. It really should make 210-220whp without issues. My low power numbers are now being blamed on this muffler.

I would like to do a leak down just to confirm health and if the leak down passes I’d definitely leave this engine for now.

what to do…?

Throw a turbo on and send it. Find out what breaks and then build it so it doesn't break again.
Haha yea it crossed my mind to just boost this motor.

that’s still a few dollars away though. I also have my forged motor now that I technically don’t need to swap in YET.

if leak down is solid then cams and throttle body are going in/on. Then exhaust and send it.

if leakdown is shit, then back to pulling the motor lol
