Building for the road course...again

If the vtc actuator was bad and making noise like the vid or your car, would there not be damage marks some where like on Speed valve covers? Does anyone on the K20 forums know of a potential spot to check?
Yours may not have failed, but may be lazy?

pretty much the noise, and eventually if you drive enough a code. There’s no actual damage that takes place outside of the vtc gears internals

Someone over on the k20 forums told me to just fire it up without the valve cover. This way I can 100% confirm.

the theory is still “bad vtc gear” which I’m thinking it is. The sound is just too bang on for bad vtc gear

Haven’t touched the car in a bit. It’s gotten cold here again and I also kinda am just over it.

my fmic kit showed up. That wasn’t without its own drama but that’s been sorted now. It’s a nice looking kit. Definitely not “top of the top best of the best” but also definitely not eBay crap. The core is nice and big but it’s heavy. The piping looks great. The crash bar is definitely the bare minimum just to hold the core up but it should be just fine.

still unsure if I’m gonna swap that vtc gear myself or just take it to buddy in February. He’ll be dyno tuning it anyways and we’ll slap an exhaust on it. Will be going with an eBay 3” exhaust for this season. Just due to cost.

tires have been ordered for 2023. Looking forward to trying something else.

still waiting on falken warranty for those shitty rt660’s. It’s been since September.

first core, nice dent in it. If it holds air that dent doesn’t matter but I wasn’t risking it

They sent me another core and told me to keep the first one

think I’m gonna boost leak test both and if both are good I’ll use the dented one and sell the nice one

That dent isn't even in an area that has to hold air so I would think it's fine. And even if it's not for some cash jbweld will make it fine

Yea. I’m pretty confident it’s fine. Gonna boost leak test it anyways just cause but yea. Going to sell the “good” one. Help pay for exhaust or something. Not a bad deal after all. They even refunded me 102usd for shipping after the issues.

My tr1235 core was dented In almost the same spot. Wasn't an issue at all
Good to hear. I think it’ll be fine. Gonna sell the nice one and keep the dent for myself. Can’t see it when it’s on the car anyways!

Picked up my exhaust yesterday. Rev9 3” catback. It’s considered a “full race clone” or replica. The full race exhaust is one of the best off the shelf exhausts for these cars. Very popular.

this is a knock off lol. It was $600cad cash picked up locally.

it looks pretty good I think,

Think I found the cheap part of it lol. This is the vband for the axle back. This is the muffler section heading to the rear of the car

Maybe a minor flow restriction? Can probably hammer that down or have it welded. Or maybe it doesn’t matter

if everything works out which i hope it does you might actually make the WHP of a stock MS3

with no torque.

lol
Haha this is actually my goal. The car SHOULD lay down around 220-230whp with around 160wtqs.

peak torque is like 6500rpm but the delta between min torque and max torque is like 20ftlbs. These cars make the majority of their peak torque for almost the entire usable power band(4500-8500). Vtec magic and all.

even at 210whp it would be a 45whp gain over what I had. That’s massive.

as for lap times I’m hoping for 1 second strictly from power alone. Then another second from more driver mod.

this will make the civic around 3-4 seconds faster then the Mazda ever was…but with 100+whp less, and 160wtq less. Absolutely insane

Mazdas fastest lap was a 1:23.3(330whp stock block)
Civics fastest lap is currently a 1:22.8(163whp)

I went 1:23.1 in the civic with my narrow street wheel/tire setup. Just puts shit into perspective vs the Mazda which was always on the good wheel/tire setup.

my Mazda was not bullshit. Neither is the civic. Pretty cool results

My Honda guy is back in town. Shop is ready for my car whenever I want to bring it.

- fix noise
- install TB
- install exhaust
- tune
- install spherical control arm bushings
- align / corner balance
- wait for spring to send it

The above will most likely be delayed. Project might need to be placed on hold. I have been single income for the last 7-8 months and I’m starting to run out of money here lol.

we’ll see what happens next. And when.

Start an OnlyFans with a username OnlyCivics just showing track videos and mods.
Hahaha I wish. I’m doing what I can here so we’ll see. I’m still very much motivated to get this shit on the dyno asap but budget is tight. I’m really hoping my noise is just the vtc gear since I have a few of those I could swap. Cheap repair.

Anyways we’ll see. I may bring the car to the shop this week or next. I’ll see how monies doing

Little video I threw together after finding some footage of myself driving the civic in 2021 vs 2022.

In 2021 the car just had power mods, brakes, and as much alignment as we could get with camber bolts and camber arms. The car honestly probably made more power in 2021 as well.

for 2022 I added the coilovers, wheel and tire package(staggered setup), and a nice alignment.

look at how massive the differences are. I know this info doesn’t apply to basically anyone here but it really, really is eye opening to see the side by side clips.

What of the stuff you did in 2022 do you think made the biggest difference in reducing that steering angle? Definitely cool to see the side-by-side.
