Building for the road course...again

If blow by is that bad you could remove the valve cover and put some scrubbers into the PCV baffling. Miata owners have been known to that in extreme circumstances.

Or maybe run an vacuum pump from a GM connected to the cover. Wire it up with a relay to 12V ignition and you'd be good to go. You can find those pumps on Acadia and Traverse models. They're right at the front under the hood.
im more so worried about why there would be so much blow by specially at idle. I know the bottom end is high mileage so maybe its always been like this. I've never ran the car without the oil cap before this recent rebuild. Maybe its normal?

Im still on the fence about even bringing the thing to the dyno. what if it blows up first pull lol? I think this is the point when i just need to send it and see? maybe its fine. Maybe not.

Im definitely paranoid with this thing now lol

If the crank case pressure is from the rings and high mileage it's not going to blow up it's just going to make less power and have more blow by

Fair enough. I’m ok with this. At the end of the day the bottom end is high mileage and was definitely beat on.

we shall see. I began putting the car back together yesterday. Few more pieces and it’ll be road ready

Did a couple things this weekend.

Saturday:
New PCV valve installed. Took all of 15 seconds so that was nice. Old one was probably original. Seemed a little gummed up. New one is oem. Nice and fresh

Next up. Repair cam position sensor wiring. I got a new oem pigtail from my Honda guy. Little splicey splice action and good to go. This repair is proper. I’ve heard the argument not to use solder blah blah yea well been doing it forever and never an issue. Just do it properly.

solder, tape, heat shrink.

Like OEM

Next up I remade my main battery to chassis ground. Previously it was anchored via this tiny ass rusty ass bolt here. Terminal was on a mix of rust/painted surface. How the car ran like this I will never know. Explains random voltage issues for sure. I’m always a little extra with my electrical on all my cars. After all, the shit is relying on voltage to do literally everything sooooo it’s kinda important

cleaned up the rust. Nice big 12mm m10 big boi bolt for my 4gauge main ground. Currently soaked in wd40. Will paint when I get some red paint. Might just use black spray paint since I don’t really care and I already have it

Sunday(today)
One final valve lash check up. All were perfect expect 2 or 3 that needed a little adjustment. Otherwise mint.

Last but not least for today…compression test. You can look a few pages back for my previous compression results but we were sitting around 175-180psi across all 4. Test was done stone cold again like last time.

new results from today. I was nervous lol

We have picked up good numbers across the board!! Very consistent still as well. Beautiful!!

I’m at the point now where I need to reinstall the rain tray and wiper cowl. Then crash bar. Then front bumper.

THEN we go for a test drive. Oh mannn. So close lol. I do feel better after that compression test though

Also met this guy on Friday
8.8 second 1/4 mile. 51psi of boost

He was selling a full set of Supertech valve train. Springs, seats, titanium retainers, keepers, everything. $250 cad. I just bought this exact setup a few months ago for 650cad not including the keepers. Had to jump on it.

he’s got a set of cp Carrillo rods with carr bolts for sale soon to. That’s a $2100cad setup. Basically the best shit you can buy before going aluminum or titanium rods.

I might buy em and build a second k20 lol. The deal is too real. I told him I’m kinda broke so it won’t be any time soon but guy has money and doesn’t care. Said he’d hold them for me.

i might grab them. Maybe lol

Did some idle tuning today cause idle short term is pegged at -25%.

so far I removed 20% fuel from idle. It’s still trimming -8%ish. I may remove another 5% and call it good

I’ve noticed throttle response has already greatly improved just from those changes. Things sharp now where as before it felt real lazy on the throttle blip.

induction noise is dumb loud. Like dumb. This things gonna make some real noise.

Seeing all the work you do motivates me to do work on mine.

The autoX went well for me. I ran in the "cookie cutter" class as they call it. Basically an unlimited class since my car can't class in any other specific categories. I placed 5th out of 12th and I was racing against some experienced drivers.

Are you using Hondata? I keep having a weird issue on my Miata that maybe you could give me some insight on even though the software is completely different.

That’s awesome that autox went well! You placed well I’d be happy with that for sure! Specially in a class that high up.

I am using Hondata. Car is setup on a MAP based tune. Either fully MAP, or hybrid, I’m not 100% sure lol. These cars can run with the maf, map only, or hybrid which is some sort of combo of both. Still learning about this shit!

Small shit.

installed the wiper cowl.

installed the tubular crash bar. It weighs 4lbs vs the stock bar weighing 8lbs.

Decided to finally clean up the radiator mounts. They were such ugly rusty eye sores.

Wire wheeled them. Then sprayed with rust converter. Then a few coats of paint.

Second coat drying here

<<Here>> is your next science project for nice looking fasteners. Narrator's copper plating apparently is a bit smutty, lol
I plan to make a bath setup when I do my chassis rebuild ;)

Got a lot of work to do at the shop tomorrow. Woohoo. I was asked to bring the civic in asap so we can start doing dyno rips. His words lol.

i think Monday I’ll go for a little test drive and if it’s all good then I’ll head straight to the shop.

the owner seems excited about this which is surprising since this is very…minor for him compared to his 900hp k24’s. I guess after all the shit he’s ready to see it make some power too. Awesome lol. That got me hyped. Here’s hoping for ridiculous high numbers on a dyno we know reads low

I hope the numbers transmit to the track too. You might be in for some more driver mod ;), lol
Absolutely! Always learning. Will have to learn the new power. Probably loosen the car up more! Wheel straighter sooner apply all the power!!

I’m excited for this. And to think I came from a 370whp car. And before that it was like 330whp for a while. Jeez lol

stop-already-dead.gif

That’s about it. I will be excited to break 200 lol. I’m OK with that. Most of the dudes with more power are slow as absolute fuck anyways lol. I still hold the Mazdaspeed lap record here and it’s been like 3 years lol what kinda joke is this.

Anyways hoping more so for a flat torque line from say 4.5k-8.5k. That’ll be good. Peak numbers as usual…don’t matter. Good torque curve is what we want!

First drive just happened, 35 minute cruise. So far…it was great!! I didn’t know what to expect specially with my diy half baked tune and all the changes. It seemed really good!!

I believe I for sure have an exhaust leak. Can hear the ticking at idle under the car. No fluid leaks detected yet!
No smoke clouds or anything. Oil level is still perfect and clean. Nice!!

i went max 70% throttle, and max 7400rpm. I did hit vtec multiple times. It works!! It is lazy on engagement though. I believe vtec crossover will need to be moved up significantly from 4000rpm where it’s set with stock cams. That will probably clear that up. Cam tuning is required as well for sure but yea the car feels great!!
I was really worried about weirdness with that massive throttle body but it’s literally perfect. Feels great.

It’s off to the shop tomorrow. Gotta bolt on the exhaust then start tuning. Cat will get installed after so we can see before and after numbers on the dyno.
