Building for the road course...again

I feel like this is one of the big things missed on my Mazda build. An actual front end. 17x9 is great and all but not on a 3200lbs car with 350wheel torque and the heaviest front end in the game. This would've been proper for that car with a 275 mounted up front. Ah well. Live and learn
Im still running 255 just with a ton more sidewall support. Increased front track width was immediately noticeable on the street too. Feels like youre driving a knife. Only real way to describe it.
Did as much testing as I could on the street. Tried to load up the front end heavy but its tough on the street. Didnt seem to matter what i did that front end was STUCK. No rubbing detected during the test drive either so thats a huge win

Mondays track day. Believe I had one of the fastest if not the fastest lap of the day.

All sorts of shit on track from base model 130hp civics to 2 ZL1 1LE Camaros. Those things eat up that straight away

Aiming for top 10 this season. It should be doable. Engines still a work in progress. More tuning, more trying out different shit on the intake side. So far I’ve gone faster so no complaints.

Took me a second to see the company I’m keeping lol. My little 2.0 shitbox has found its way up the list hanging out with some heavy hitters. I’ll take it
 
Seeing that 9k RPM was nice! Any plans to go higher? You were definitely moving on that lap.
So we’re currently at 9200. We’ll see how the power looks on the dyno and see if it’s worth revving out to 9500. I am built for 9500rpm but the header is a bit of a set back rolling off around 9100(based on resonances).

As much as I want 9500 there’s no point stressing things if it’s not making any power up there
 
Even if power is falling off, extra RPM can save you from having to shift, depending on track and gearing.
That was part of the goal of this engine. Spread out the torque to avoid additional shifts. So far I have way more wheel speed given the rpm than ever before.

If need be, we’ll extend it. That’s always an option.

Having good torque from ~4500-9000 has been great. On the street it’s whatever but it was immediately noticeable at the track
 
There were a few goals with this build. Power being one of them but I was looking for more.

extending the power band to avoid downshifts was one of the goals which it seems we got right
 
That’s another good one. Seems we have a few benefits here.

Still working on tuning and intake manifold setup. Going to be trying something different this week to see what the engine tells us.


I recently downgraded throttle bodies from 70mm to 65mm as a reliability mod. That change did some crazy stuff all over the map. Tuner says my setup appears to be extremely sensitive on the intake side so we’re going to play around with a few things here

Yea but you’ll have that turbo power at least. Something I dont have…yet the car still manages to be a track weapon. I’ll take what I can get lol
 
Terrible lap from Friday. I see about 1 second of easy time here. I just wasn’t driving well straight up. Need to get back into it…

Currently trying to solution the stupid ice mode problems with this car. The abs is a little over active and loves to just go into ice mode making it very difficult to push for time and be consistent with the brakes.


Part of my theory is I am running hawk HP+ rear pads which have a ton of initial bite. Under hard braking with all the weight being transferred up front the rear end gets real light. My guess is I may be locking up a rear even slightly and that triggers ice mode.

I got some elcheapo part store rear pads to try. Apparently it helps
 
1. at the end there against the wall, i would be wasting a lot of gas doing pulls on the highway against jersey walls.
2. people who create vertical youtube shorts can go to hell
3. it looks like its time for more spring and damper
4. different car but on my odyssey with aggressive pads i can get the abs confused if i brake hard while turning, i think it might just be the way honda tunes the abs computer. and i dont even lock the brakes just a little under rotation
