Building for the road course...again

Yea it’s definitely way under built. Cheap and easy I guess. It’s by far the biggest issue with tracking this platform. Total crap like come on Honda. People been racing Hondas forever

Even Honda said fyhn

The annoying part is that they could have sized something from the Odyssey to be a bolt in replacement and didn't

Your civic with the hub failure isnt that much different than Miata hub failures. You're pushing the suspension so hard with G forces it wasn't meant to have lol. Im glad you're ok and didn't total the car.

I second switching platforms. What will you do if the big boy hub upgrade doesnt work or breaks?

I’m just too invested at this point and there’s nothing that’ll touch this car for the money. Even with no real power upgrades.

Definitely not interested in a brz or Miata unfortunately.

I’m hoping a hub upgrade can be done here. It can’t be that crazy?

Miatas do have hub upgrades don’t they? I remember hearing about Miata hub failures but they’re still one of the most tracked platforms out there so there’s gotta be a way to make this work?

Based on the 8th/9th gen civic track day facebook group guys are just replacing hubs every 2-3 events. I was running them longer than that so I guess I’ll need to make my service interval more frequent. Every 2 events I’ll just swap them out. Sucks but that’s what it is for now I guess

How much are they each? I assume the install is straight forward. Not like they will have a chance to get rusty

Got the hub in. These are pretty fun. It looks like the hubs are inserted into the bearing housing, then I'm not entirely sure what the piece is on the backside (towards interior of car). Massive pressed plug or the hub itself is formed to capture the bearings. So to pull the hub apart, I'll need to cut that flange off.

awesome progress! Looks like youre getting somewhere.

So wtf is that retention system? Looks like the hub goes all the way through the bearing then its smushed with a press and mushroomed out? is that what im seeing here?

It's a single piece - I think the discoloration is leftover from the heat treat process. They likely heat treat it, then finish grind the bearing race.

With that said, I'm not considering reproducing a part similar to this. The integrated bearing race is a no go for me. I think replacing the hub with better material, and replacing the bearing housing with a more typical standalone wheel bearing is where I'm headed.
