Built 5862 I Just Wanna Go Fast (Formerly Known as Mazdazilla's Build Thread Thingy)

Do you see any advantages to bluetooth monitoring with VT over Android/Torque Pro?

I've never used Torque before. I don't know what the request rate is of Torque but VT might be higher, meaning higher resolution. Also, with one finger tap I can start logging if I see something go amiss.

yeah I just dont want to have to get a laptop/tablet for my car. The main benefit of the Cobb is that the AP sits right there all the time for me when I start up the car.

That's what I bought the tablet solely for. Cost me $35 used. Works just fine. I can load tunes onto it just like an AP and flash them onto the car from the tablet with the Versalink cord. I'll probably never take the tablet out of my car, I don't really have a use for it other than this. But it's also nice because if I'm in my garage and need to look something up on the internet I can just use the tablet for that rather than having to go inside and pull out my computer.

Do you have it mounted?

Torque can log very easily also, though I've never used that function. It's even got some kind of shite to upload logs automagically to FB or something. However torque is limited in its rate not by torque but by the BT adapter (I know firsthand because I own both a $8 eBay one and a $100 OBDLink MX, besides research) . VT won't get a faster rate than Torque unless it's wired. Torque can also probably operate wired but I've never looked into that because I use it on my phone. Unless it was in a hidden popup or something, no way can I leave a tablet visibly mounted in my car. This is Detroit, baby. I don't leave my AP in the car, anywhere except in the garage at home.

There are a couple things that Torque doesn't have, at least by default, even with the plugin. One is injector duty cycle, I can't recall the other thing I wanted to look at but couldn't find. If I knew the PID code numbers I could presumably set it up custom. But it's at least one small point in favor of VT.

I'm mostly just looking for a reason to go VT as I'm highly tempted to get in on the group buy but just don't have enough solid reason (paranoia is not a solid reason) to put me over the edge.

Yup, bought a $10 suction cup mount off amazon. Seems to hold up just fine. I've had it mounted in my car for about two weeks now, no issues.

Ah, that's good to know. I don't know much about torque. But other stuff that drew me to VT was megaspool, 8k rpm tables and 4.0 load tables. Also they've got a flex fuel kit in the works to adjust automatically for changes in E and they're trying to make aux fuel incorporated to the ECU to eliminate the SS controller. They're also looking into incorporating rolling megaspool soon too I believe. All said and done, after selling my AP and buying at the discounted price, it cost me $100. I think it is totally well worth it. Oh, also the VT guys are always on the forums and answer any questions you might have in a matter of hours. Their customer support is totally awesome.

Also, the tablet and mount can easily be hidden in the glovebox or center console. I don't think I'll have any issue with thieves, then again I also don't live in Detroit :)

It all sounds pretty good, and the tablet isn't horrible, but bigger than I think I would like.

All the features sound nice, but really none of them do anything for me. Maybe the load tables.

Now if they can do on the fly map switching I would be in. But I think our ecu limits that ability

The tablet really isn't that large, it's 7" and I think the screen itself is around 6". If you didn't want it on the windshield I'm sure making a mount to have it on the dash or center console wouldn't be hard at all. Yea we can't do on the fly switching, just not possible. BUT changing maps takes like 30-45 seconds so I don't really mind.

I'm looking forward to using the extended load tables. I was hitting ~2.35 on my S3 so it'd of been helpful even with that setup.

Was hitting that load causing you issues? I hit higher than that with no problems to speak of

No it was not causing me issues but there was definitely performance left on the table as far as ignition timing goes. It's also nice because you can set alerts to flash while monitoring or logging for any parameter for whatever value you want the alert set at.

Gave megaspool a little test for the first time yesterday. Didn't really keep my foot in it because I didn't have my dump tubes on and didn't want to cover my engine bay in soot. Gates have 6psi springs in them and it built 10psi just fine revving to 3800. That was out of the box ignition settings, haven't even really messed around with it. I'm very satisfied thus far, I'm sure I'll be able to build 20-25psi but I'm not sure I want to until I can get a stronger bottom end in the car.

(ignore the awful scraping, getting downpipe reangled tonight so it's not hitting the ground)

Mmmm what am I up to?

Dumps flow just like large exhaust piping and lower spool time hundreds of RPMs, just sayin :D

fender dump

yeah looks like fender exit to me. Im guessing just for ewg as it looks smaller.

Ding ding ding! i'd post a better picture but my fab guy still has them.

I didn't really see too much performance gain when I had my EWG on my S3 over another car with an IWG S3. I thought about going down with the dumps but then I'd have a lot of issues getting to stuff behind the engine and running my slashcut line. So I went with this.

Yeah, EWG over IWG on a BNR prolly isn't an issue, not like 3" exhaust is, anyways.. But that BW turbo you have will probably LOVE the flow of that dump and EWG.
