Car died, now won't start. AP won't connect

As the car was warming on Friday it just shut off. I went to start it again but turning the key returned nothing, not even starter click. The AP cannot connect to the ECU. I see that even key turned on the gauge cluster is blank except for the door open light and a blinking immobilizer light. The cluster gauges do not power on and the window switches no longer work. All gauges that were tied to key on work, as well as radio and lights. I've checked all the fuses and relays that I could think of but all look correct.

Any thoughts on next steps?

Sounds like battery is dead. Hook jumpers to another car and see if lights come on. If its the battery, then the alternator probably crapped out and you've been running on battery power.

I had a similar thought. I had tried to jump it with another car to no avail. Battery reads 12.4v currently.

Might be a dumb question, but how did you verify that all the fuses were good?

I checked all the engine bay fuses and all were good. I checked a few of the kick box fuses as well. The power window fuse is fine, even though the windows are not operational right now.

Are you talking about a link between the positive cable and fuse box, right at the fuse box? I don't see one on mine, its a straight run into the fuse box. Unless that's under the box and I'm missing it.

I'm just trying to figure out the link between these issues. I'd be willing to think that they're ECU related but why the power windows? I wish I could connect the AP and dig into the issue but that's not working.

Do you have a gen2? There's a meter fuse in the driver side fuse box that will yield this same behavior if you blow it

Ok, sorry I should have provided more info. This is a gen 1 and the battery is relocated to the trunk so I don't have that link any longer. I have confirmed that I'm getting the full 12.4v up to the engine bay.

I can toss on a different battery tomorrow to see if its a bad cell.

Here's a picture of the meter fuse on my gen2, I blew it by being careless when I wired my dash cam, instrument cluster wouldn't turn on but the alarm light blinked and the AP wouldn't connect.

+1 on Raiders note of a bad cell.

Had a local with a bad battery, shit wouldn't jump start. Voltage read fine. We scratched our heads for a whole day troubleshooting literally every electrical issue it could be. We swapped batteries with mine, BAM!!! Instant start!

His battery couldnt handle any kind of load at all, we were both surprised that jumping it didn't do anything. We put that battery in my car, and same shit happened. Both were gen2's.

Even though the gen1 fuse box is way different I still checked. There's no meter fuse in the bay, but there is one in the kickbox. That fuse was fine though. I'm going to go through all of those fuses tomorrow one by one.

That was 12.4v with key off, I can check with key on.

Yeah please check with the key on, if the battery is broken in the way raider mentioned I'd think the voltage would have to sag pretty low (below 9v) for the cluster to not turn on

Ok I forgot about the battery in the other race car. I grabbed that and threw it in to test the dead cell theory. 12.2v with key off, 11.75v with key on. Same symptoms, most of the gauge cluster off, no attempts to crank, and AP won't connect. Its weird, cluster seems to be able to turn on since I do have the immobilizer light and door light, plus I notice the backlighting for the gauges. Just no gauges light up, no cel/airbag lights lighting up, etc.

Local had this issue on his ms6. His ignition fuse (In the kickbox) had popped. Popped any time he turned the Key to on position and ap couldn't communicate with ecu. Unplugged his coil packs from the harness and it stopped popping fuses and ap would connect to ecu. Replaced his coil packs and car came back to life. One of the coil packs shorted out internally
