Clutch Job

Hello all! New to the Mazdaspeeds. Just bought an 07 Speed6 and it needs a new clutch, what's everyone's experience with two different clutches. the fidanza flywheel paired with the oem clutch kit, and the act HD with the streetlite fly wheel. My eventually goal is 300whp and I don't want to have to pull the clutch again. And then finally how bad of job is it to replace it myself? Thanks in advance!

Luk Clutch Kit with Fidanza flywheel is good for around 400 wheel tq. With your goals I would just stick with that. Any fancier clutch and you are trading longevity for power you don't make.

Thank you! How does it perform with that setup? Switching from a dual mass to a single mass? I noticed with mine before the clutch failed it was a little unpredictable, but that mightve been from the springs on the pressure plate failing. Also how much of a pain is it to do this myself? I'm thinking of renting out a bay for 2 days in a diy garage.

The drivability with the Fidanza/Luk is superior to the OEM clutch. The Speed6 clutch is not an easy job, but you follow the same basics as any clutch if you are ditching the DM flywheel. However, as with any Mazda, you need to be willing to remove parts to access what you are working on. A hoist is a huge asset, but it can be done on the ground. The Speed6 trans is heavy, be ready!

Yea it looks like it's going to be a pain but the shop said they have all the tools to do it, still trying to weigh my options of paying someone or doing it myself, still undecided
 
I did it in my garage, on jack stands. I do have a chain block and rail on the ceiling, which helped, and I made a trans jack out of an old 2ton cheap jack. It was the most complex and 1st transverse clutch I've ever done, but nothing out of the ordinary...its all the same.

I have all the pics from another website (now defunct) @Raider , do you know if a how to exists for the Speed6. I couldn't find one? If not I will see what I can assemble this weekend for a quick thread.

I've pulled a motor and trans from a cobalt in the past (through the top... woops lol) so I already kind of have a feel for it, but obviously every car is different, I believe there's one for a 2nd gen speed 3, but I haven't found one for a speed 6, it shouldn't be too different should it? Just an extra driveshaft right? If you could, you could post just some major things that I could possible forget. Thanks!

How long did it take you to do the whole thing?
 
I took it apart over a weekend and reassembled it over another weekend. I wasnt in any hurry to get it done tho, I do most of the work on my car while its parked in the shop for the snow season.

Do you think it could be done in a weekend? Just talked to shop im renting a bay out in, they have all the tools including a transmission jack and a tech who can help me when needed.

Very Do-able on a weekend, I've done it in the driveway on a slant under a tarp in the rain. Started tear down Friday night and was running by dinner sat.

Shop with a hoist and transmission jack plus a set of hands that's a tech sounds like a win to me!
