hi I'm new to this forum, and new to turbo gdi cars and tuning. basically I'm a shade tree mechanic, most of my experience is with diesels, (more fuel=more power and you cant really hurt them with bad air/fuel ratios) and one of my customers has a 2007 mazdaspeed 3, which I said I could put an engine in. the engine came from ebay, it appears to be from a cx7 (it has a flex plate and some of the vacuum lines are different) and the turbos on the blown engine and the new engine are both shot. i told my customer to get a new turbo and he got a cst4. i know nothing about tuning, although i have learned a lot about the various causes of zoom zoom boom. im pretty sure bigger turbo needs better tune, or you break stuff
since this car isn't my car, i don't know much about it. the engine going in it was completely stock in its previous life, and has never been messed with. (as far as i can tell)
the blown engine from the car didn't have hpfp upgrades, i think it may be tuned (there's an accessport in the car), its missing a few rod bearings, it was ran stock turbo, cold air intake, upgrade blow off valve, big throttle body. the owner of the car doesn't know much about cars, so i cant get much info from him.
is the stock tune mild enough to run with big turbo and no hpfp upgrade (just for test drive to see if his ebay engine actually works) and is there any tunes out there that i can just flash to the ecm and then drive the car to a real tuner who knows what to do. once i get the car running its going to get hpfp internals. the current set up on the car is cold air intake, cst4 turbo, better clutch and fidanza flywheel, corksport 72mm throttle body. ive searched these forums and found guides to tune it myself, but because its not my car i don't want to blow it up. sorry if i missed some faq thread and these are just noob questions that could be found with a little digging.

(edit- I can still tell him to return the turbo and get one of the turbos that arent big but dont leak like the factory ko4, although the owner of the car wants big turbo)

Welcome to mso! If it were my car I wouldn't drive it without hpfp internals, I'd be upgrading to a 3port ebcs and 3bar map (Bosch) with that turbo as well, he's definitely going to want a tune, could you in theory leave it with the stock tune just to start the engine and perhaps do a parking lot drive possibly, would I? Not in my car we'll see what some of the more experienced folks say.

Now what I would do is order an e tune from freektune or purple drank for the mods and turbo, get the base map and flash that to the car then start it, customer can then start road tuning or finish it via remote Dyno tune.

Tune is going to help driveability on that throttle body as well

ok thanks
forgot to mention 3.5bar map comes with turbo and map has calibration numbers printed on it so we're good there
is there a way to limit boost pressure on the cst4 so it can run the stock tune until sombody who knows what theyre doing can tune the car
