davychronic's build

Yea i honestly think id just quit power wise if i had to resort to a surge tank and easier said than done for me to get parts from a dealer, closest one over 100 miles away. Always order from chi town and get bent over for shipping and wait forever. You know if the ford fusion equivent has the same ring? Local ford dealer has helped me cross parts in the past.

I did end up ordering versatune today, fuck cobb. And i was able to get it to break up doing a 4th gear pull going against the wind up a hill i was able to build 23.5psi and it did it. Im going to lift the car after it cools down and check my ckps.

And another thing thats racking my brain right now is how im hitting 4.24v on my maf at 23psi and generating a 3.0 load. Doesnt make sense to me on a 3.5” maf and only running the stock injectors.

3.0 load is a lot. I am on a 3.5" HTP and I don't ever get close to 3.0 load with the CS Turbo at 23psi. In VT I am at like 2.4 load generally for that psi. In the winter I was creeping to 26 psi and hitting 2.7 load. What do you g/s look like? Can you post a log?

Yea i didnt think 3.0 was possible on stock injectors but its a calculated value so something isnt reading right so i thought my map scalars were off. I still somewhat suspect a problem with my maf, i may try my spare and see if anything changes. Ill upload the log i took here in a little bit when i get back to my pc.

Maf scaling off?

I see a max load of 2.5-2.6 at 4300rpm at 23psi and it tapers down to 1.58 calculated load up top. Granted that has a lot to do with how my maf is scaled for aux fueling

Something is off, 22.67 psi with 3.06 load and 513 g/s , that is pretty wild. Is it -40 degrees outside in western Iowa right now? You making like 900 whp ?

I meant map scaling, yea anyone with maf tuned aux fueling is going to have lower calc loads up top, takes time to dial it in perfect. Helps to be able to use the ss controller to smooth out rough spots. Cool thing about versatuner is you can change the axis to help with having lower calc loads like that.

You're way out of fuel as well, that injector duty up top may be causing any cutting out you may be experiencing

No the idcs are that high because i turned the aux fuel off and forgot that i cant go over 5500 rpm with e30 on wg pressure. The cutting out is 100% ignition related. Ill flash a map for my aux injectors and give it a little more boost and see if it cuts out anymore since i adjusted my crank sensor.

Vapor lock is a thing of the past, it's really only an issue on carbed engines because fuel pressure is usually below 5psi. With modern fuel injection, even low side fuel pressure will always be high enough to avoid having vapor lock issues.

Shoot me your paypal info again, I'm sure I lost it like I do most things. I'll swing by the dealer today.

Edit: Well, I googled the part number for the ring. Looks like they've gone up in price over the past couple years. Cost about $50 now, let me know if you still want one. https://www.jimellismazdaparts.com/products/Mazda/2006/MazdaSpeed6/NUT--UNION/1832340/BN8F42167.html

Well i went out and bought some 4ga copper wire and did the coil mod and something new happened, i got a p0304 under load while its missing, swapped coils, triple checked the length of wire works plug looks exactly the same as the others. Runs perfect putting around doing little pulls of lower boost like 15 or so. My compression gauge is a piece of shit so until i get a new gauge only other thing i can think of is a bad ecu or harness. I guess ill swap the harness out tomorrow and rule that out.

How's the spark plug for cyl 4 look. If it looks like it's not getting fuel, check the injector harness. My cyl 4 harness pulled it self off the plug that clips into the injector and was doing the same thing due to the stress put on the harness with the jmf

Mine looks and feels tight, absolutely nothing touching the harness anywhere near it. Ive done a lot of poking and prodding on the ignition harness so i hope thats it if not then i dont know where to go next. A 2jz swap is looking better and better by the day.

And believe me i will ohm out every fuggin wire to make sure nothing like happened to you is going on. Ill replace the harness in the morning on a cold engine and when the fuel pressure drops.

Hey sir.

My fuel setup is probably one of the most simple setups being run. I haven't had any fuel starvation issues, but ymmv. I also make sure to never wot below a 1/4 tank (3-4 gal left in tank)

But here it is:

Aeromotive stealth 320 in tank fuel pump in a stock unmodified basket

On the top of the Hpfp where the low pressure line connects to the Hpfp housing , I have this adapter
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aei-15120

The stock low pressure line will connect right to the top of that.

Then I have a -6AN line running from the port on the side of that adapter running straight to the rail on the JMF.

Jmf has four Bosch 2200cc injectors in it (overkill but I got em cheap)

And the return side of the PI rail on the jmf is plugged since I run no return. I do not run an aftermarket FPR or anything either. Just crushed the stock regulator.

Here's a pic. I did upgrade the stock low pressure line to a steel braided -6AN ptfe line. And the line running from the adapter in the summit racing link above to the rail on the jmf is also -6AN PTFE line since I run strictly an E48 mix

So far its been good for this kind of power (was on the dyno yesterday afternoon.) 87* shop temp at 28% humidity

AFR target is 12.0, but I am running closer to 11.4 past 7k rpm

Here's what the logs look like for run 2 and 3 of that graph (I did hide some Colums, but you can see how maf is scaled as my Tuna has my PI kick on around 3.6-3.8V) hopefully this helps (I don't want to share the entire log out of respect to my tuner, as we have a good trust and he let's me tinker with my own maps so I don't always have to bother him with simple stuff like adjusting wgdc or fueling)

I'll probably touch up the fueling a bit,but this was my first time touching the split second map on my own. And wanted to get a feel for it in a controlled environment. Now that I have a better idea, I should be able to smooth it out a bit to hold closer to 12.0 during an entire WOT pull

@Solarsurge

This is what I was referring to. Thanks. I was pretty sure single pump was fuel limited at 720ish HP. Just wanted to make sure someone was over 600. Those injectors are definitely overkill though.

I am on brand spanking new itv22 plugs gapped to .018 and swapped out my coils for the ones i got fb. The harness will take a little more work. Also i removed power from the ss controller and flashed a 0wgdc map and had no spark blowout but only 20psi creeping to 22. I started thinking about the ckps and i remember last time i drove this car to texas i blew an intercooler hose and it gave me a code that had to do with the ckps so i took it off (all of this about a year ago in texas) to inspect it and reinstalled it. Is it possible that if it was maybe installed off a hair in either direction that it could cause my trouble and not throw a code? I guess i could jack up my car and check to make sure its at the right spot. @Ssinstaller maybe any insight on this?

If it wasn't out enough to cause the Cam/Crank sensor correlation MIL, it probably isn't the issue.

[doublepost=1532103613][/doublepost]So here is the log i took yesterday, this is on e30 so unless you are too I wouldnt put a lot of stock into the g/s reading

I have seen loads above 3.0 on my ported oem injectors and fuel pump with the BAP on 93 octane. That corresponds to about 4.45V on my blow through 3.5" maf housing and >125% IDC.
My AFR is within 0.2 of targeted until the injectors exceed 115% duty cycle, so the MAF readings should be fairly accurate up to about 460 G/S, or 3.03 load.

Why is your timing so low in your log? I understand your trying to diagnose the cause of you blowout issues, but I'd consider 6 deg at 6500rpm very conservative on 91 pump, much less E30

Well I think I figured out the problem, its going to take a few revisions and adding some boost to know for sure but here is where im at. I decided to throw in my 3 bar map sensor (just going through my head and thinking about parts ive changed since it was running good) and went to fill up on 91 for the first time in over a year. So obviously my maf curve isnt dialed in at all since i just copied over my e30 maf curve. I was watching knock and afr very close to make sure no boom happened but it finally didnt stutter at all i dont think. I am going to try and find a little more time to play with it today but it felt right this time. Dont know how the map sensor could have been the problem but oh well.

@Ssinstaller yea i run super low timing beginning my tunes and thats usually the last thing I dial in, I usually start with 9 degrees because I know thats safe even on garbage texas 93 but i dialed it back since i knew i had issues. Im just playing it super safe when im trying to diagnose shit just to make sure any knock i get isnt from timing advance.

I am going to be busy today

ONE OF US , ONE OF US, ONE OF US

I dont know why i waited so long, the software is so much better in almost every way. Only thing i miss from atr is when you highlight a group of cells, you just type the number and it changes where in vt you have to enter it in a box and tell it to fill the cells but that is nit picking. Otherwise its great software, worth the money 100%.
