General block shit:

• Main bearings:

• Block and gasket had oil all over the place for some reason (sat for months before being pulled, was not turned upside down before head was removed today):

• Headwork:

Cylinder 3 stuff:

• Gross (they all looked like this)

• Rod bearings (not sure if this is good or bad or what):

• Extra exhaust flow

• Further customized piston

• Cylinder wall not even broke in yet

Probably oiled up fuel, but remember, that's also the cylinder that ate the spark plug.

So then what the hell went wrong? Did the rings just not seat?

Clearly not, if you look at the pic of cyl4 wall. Still has the cross hatch. Also, all the pistons appeared to have the gaps closer than 180 deg off, suggesting that they were either rotating at different speeds or one wasn't rotating at all.

Piston rings are going to do whatever the hell they want once you fire the motor. People worry too much about where the gaps line up

They would spin differently, they are different materials and profiles and subject to different degrees of loading from combustion

Check the bore size

This was a brand new block, measured using a bore gauge several times at several spots and several depths into the bore; IIRC the difference between the narrowest measurement vs the widest measurement across all cylinders/measurements was something ridiculous like 0.005"

So should be safe to assume the cylinders were in spec. What about the piston

Custom made Wisecos with Wiseco rings. I did not have the bore honed to their spec, but I don't know what factory spec is so... Anyways, I've heard there are ring issues with Wisecos (after the fact) and lo and behold!

I still have spec sheets for both rods and pistons if you care, but not sure what it would tell you other than "what the fuck was he thinking?"

I have not, but at the time I assumed Wiseco was a reputable company.
