Draining fuel from tank

Can anyone give advice on how to easily get fuel out of the tank?

Approximately 5 gallons have been sitting in my car for 8 months and figure I should refresh it before starting up my rebuilt engine.

I initially thought I could siphon it out with a pump but then that might not be possible. I saw a video where someone took out the fuel pump relay and connected two of the terminals to make the fuel pump run continuously. Is that workable on the MS6?
 
Would you need to jumper the relay for the pump?

If you disconnected the LP fuel line to the HPFP, the car would never build fuel pressure, so wouldn't that cause the pump to continuously run?

Or would you get a fault of some kind?

NOTE: I'm dumb...so don't take my advice, lol.

Right now the engine/transmission/transfer case isn’t in the car so I have easy access to the low pressure fuel line. I don’t think it will run continuously when disconnected from the HPFP, but maybe it would. Anyone else know?

Yes the relay trick entails jumping two of the terminals in place of the relay.
 
I bought

Pulled the basket and put it into a container. Ezpz.

Thanks! What do you mean by pulling the basket?
 
Yeah, it's under the back seat. The seat is just held on by clips, you literally just pull up on the fronts and there are a couple of metal plates held on by screws, the one on the drivers side is coving up the fuel pump. Pull the pump out and you have open access to the tank. You need a tool to get the lock ring off though.
 
I ended up just being a dork and turning on and off the ignition until the fuel drained :) There was a lot less fuel than I expected so it didn’t take too long.

I did pull up the back seat and removed the plate but I wasn’t sure how to get the cover off to get access to the tank and I don’t have a lock ring tool anyway. I do appreciate the advice however!

Jumping the fuel relay terminals actually didn’t make it run continuously. When I’d take my wire out it wouldn’t work at all, then I put it back in and the fuel pump would run and shut off a second or two later, like normal.
 
Honestly for five gallons and eight months I would have just filled the tank with fresh fuel and then just topped it off again at a half tank. As long as you arent trying to get a new tune on the first tank you would be fine

My leafvac started and ran fine yesterday. It had half a tank of five year old fuel I topped it off and pulled the starter. Fired on the fourth pull which is actually pretty good for it

Good to know, thanks. I won’t be thinking about a tune for a while. There’s probably 0.5-1.0 gallons left in it after my silly draining (the car is on jack stands in the front) and I’ll add 3 gallons which I got a couple of days ago and then fill it up later if the engine actually runs. I’m hoping to get the engine in the car tomorrow, finally!
