Hi All!

Glad to be a part of this new community. I currently own a 2006 speed 6 GT (leather, nav, sunroof, etc) with 134k miles. I bought it in july of 2012 with 74k miles on it. It's been a long journey to this point, but I'm happy with where it's headed.

Let's start with the beginnings of my relationship with this heap... errr.... I mean amazing piece of machinery.

After going to our neighboring state of Ohio to purchase this car, I was absolutely clueless about every single thing involving mazdaspeeds. I bought it with a boost problem (would overboost and cut out like crazy) even though I was told I shouldn't have bought it in the first place.

Anyway, I drove it for OVER A YEAR with the turbo boosting as much as it wanted to. Ended up being the turbo itself. I got an Ebay downpipe and newer k04 to install to fix the issue. Learned a lot about the car and how to work on it in that year. Did all of it myself with the help of a friend.

Got various other common bolt ons and obtained a custom tune from Nick (6tuned) for 93oct. Attended the Ohio Mazdaspeeds dyno day and was satisfied by the results. (Over 100k miles and was the most consistent 6 there)

Went to the drag strip with those same mods and ran a 13.25 my second time out. I was pretty happy about it.

Fast forward to last year (2015) and I have dealership receipts piled up from various things that went wrong with it over the year since then.

In October 2015, I embarked on the journey of swapping engines with a friend who was trading his car in.

I'm trying to keep it brief, but I can add a lot more details at a later time. This is just my first thread and I needed to keep your attention somehow.

So as of now my current mods consist of:

Eagle H-beam rods
CP Pistons (Coated by Swaintech)
OEM head bolts
Supertech 55lb valvesprings (and retainers)
BSD
JMF Intake Manifold (with meth bungs)
CP-E Exhaust Manifold (Stock Flange)
GTX2867r
Ebay downpipe
CP-E single exit exhaust (no muffler)
CX Racing FMIC kit
Cobb AP V3 (6tuned)
JBR 3.5" intake
AWR trilogy mounts (95a duro)
CP-E rear diff mount
SURE front diff mount
Speed Perf6rmanc3 billet t-case caps
Corksport SS clutch line
TWM short throw shifter
Ebay vented OCC
Stratified EBCS
ACT 6 puck w/ streetlite flywheel
Aux mod
HTP battery relocation
Ebay led tail lights
Eibach Pro-kit springs
DSS rear driver axle
CP-E EGR delete

That's all I can think of right now, but next up is 6th port and some e85. I'm going to see what we can get out of this little turbo before I completely change setups.

Thanks for reading!

Update:

6th port is here.

I'm installing everything this coming weekend, including:

6th port kit
Tial mvr (w/18.85psi spring pressure)
Hood dump
3.5 bar MAP
tr8 core
And get a purple drank base map

Also, I put some new wheels on it to spruce it up a bit.

Going for broke on this poor little turbo. Lol

Pretty mild update.

Got the 6th port installed rather trouble free.

Went to IMW in Carlisle, PA and used their Mustang dyno.

Put down 319/295 on stock fueling and 93.

Then I went straight from the dyno to Will (purple drank) to get road tuned for aux fuel. He dialed it in on 93 with the 6th port and we switched to e48 for more fun. Finished at 28 psi and it's loving life.

I'm liking the power a lot right now. I know I'll want more in the future though.

This coming weekend I'm hitting the 1/4 mile to see how it'll do.
[doublepost=1461296478][/doublepost]Almost forgot!

Here's the hood dump I ended up with!

Well,

I went to the track yesterday. First run out I cracked off a 12.07 @ 116 on my snow tires.

That ended up being the best run of the day because of this.

Snapped my 500hp DSS driver rear axle on launch. Hopefully will be back sometime with some slicks and a good axle for some 11's.

Haha, I hopefully will! I just need some good tires and axle. This was on winter 205's. I also have 200whp less than you.

Well I got bad news I bought big boy slicks and made myself a promise if I don't run 10s this year im selling the car... I look forward to the competition though, sorry to hear about the axle. Keep on pushing!

That's not bad news! Haha. I'm glad to hear that you're pushing for faster times. I'm just limited by the turbo right now. Some QTP's and a new axle with some seat time should net me mid to low(ish) 11's. I'm planning for 10's on the new setup, but that won't be on for a couple months.

Well I don't have a speed 6 BUT if you want any help or any tips let me know man, well make you faster!!

Figured I'd give a little update. I went back to the drag strip a couple weeks ago and ended up with another 12.0, but this time I trapped 118. My car felt sloppy so I got under and looked. My AWR rmm bushing is trashed. I'm thinking that's the culprit for my bad 60' time (1.88). The car will be getting a different turbo over winter, I just have to decide how far I want to go. Most likely I'll end up ordering some freek headstuds and go with either a 6062 (cp-e manifold, kozmic downpipe) or s362sxe (16w fab manifold and downpipe). Either way, it should haul a lot more ass next spring.

I just read through your thread, you've got a nice build going. I vote to be relatively unique to the MazdaSpeed platform and go with the s362sx-e. Tax time/Christmas bonus time I'm seriously considering that or the new GTX3582R Gen II. Borg makes some real nice turbos though and I've heard nothing but good things.

If you pick up those headstuds would you be doing any more internal maintenance/upgrades while you've got the head off?

Thanks! The cost of the manifold and downpipe for the Borg Warner is the only thing holding me up, because I know it'll be quite a bit more than a cast manifold and pre-made downpipe.

As for the headstuds and taking the head off, I may get the cams pinned, but I'm undecided on that yet. I don't think I'll want anything else as long as everything looks good internally. It already has ARP mains, the only weak point I would see in the future is the friction washers I have instead of keyed and pinned crank and cams. Then again, Justin (Freek) is only on friction washers on his gen 2 and look how far he's gotten without issue.

There is oddly a lot of drama concerning pinned cams vs. friction washers. Personally, I pinned my cams as I feel an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

If it were my choice, I most definitely would've keyed and pinned those parts, but I obtained the engine already built from a friend for a steal. I can't complain too much though. We'll see what it can do.
