ECU tuning on MPS 6

I visited my local tuning shop and asked about ECU tuning but they saId that they've tuned lots of MPS3 / 6'es and they warned that some of the cars engine rods have been failed and they didn't recommend any tuning to ECU.

They stated that they did get approx 400hp out of the engine before the rods were blown.

Shop has decades of experience and I believe them but I was wondering how much more power I could get out of my MPS 6 safely? I have already installed Simons exhaust system and corksport stage II short ram intake.

I would have loved a little more easy horsepower through ECU tuning

Yeah they're about right at 400whp on stock rods, you can tune the ecu but it's done via a Cobb accesport or versatune.
You're also not getting anymore power without upgrading hpfp (high pressure fuel pump) internals otherwise you get fuel pressure drop and bye bye engine.

To hit that 400whp you'll need supporting mods, possibly / probably aux fueling

Not sure why the shop isn't reccomending any tuning plenty of people are tuned on stock block for years without issue. You can also look into freektune and purple drank they're the top two tuners for the platform and will e-tune you, you can even setup a remote dyno with them

cool thx4teh info. so if i'm ever considering an e-tune, I need to upgrade my fuel pump internals? is that the aux fueling thing what you mentioned? i'm a little bit new to this car tuning thing. where should i start learning more of this? is there any other threads at this forums or is google my friend?

Yeah any tuning or really any more power mods than you have needs the hpfp internals, there's some thoughts that even an intake on these cars (especially in gen2) can make it run too lean without upgrading the hpfp internals.

Aux = auxiliary fueling so port injection or methanol injection, unfortunately we cannot upgrade our injectors so we need to add them, this requires additional controllers above the accesport.

There's plenty of threads around here especially if you look in the tuning section, may find more on the ms3 section than 6 but it's the same engine with difference being AWD for 6 so same things apply.

Our search function on the forums is not so great so actually using Google to limit the search to the site is the best bet.

"Query site:madaspeeds.org" in Google, put whatever you want to know in replace of query and you'll get back only hits from here ie. "Oil site:mazdaspeeds.org" will kick up a lot of the oil discussion on here etc.

Awesome thanx, I have to do some research. Very expensive new hobby I found out but "The more you eat, the more you crave" need4speed! LOL LMAO!
