Only headwork was upgraded valve springs. Everything else with the head was stock. Rear main seal was found folded, that was the cause of my oil leak I had been complaining about since day 1The manis should be fine then. Any headwork or custom cams? Also refresh my memory on what RMS is if you would.
Edit: As a side note, you'd think super lean running would show up in the logs.
I assume the tune was compensating 2 and 3 running leaner with 1 and 4 running richer to reach target afr. This is why the logs don't indicate a lean condition? Correct me if I'm wrong. So did he give you a new rear main seal? I know that was probably to soon. I’m sorry.
it wouldn’t have to show up in the logs. If the other 2 cylinders were running rich enough it could still show up on the logs as being fine. Could this also be a result of no wot box?
Exactly. Pretty stable AFRs throughout both the 91 and e30 tunes. Still really puzzled. I'm away from home, not really thinking too much about it while I'm at treatment. You'd think that with enough variance to cause that much damage you'd see some kind of wobble at least in the AFRs, or other symptoms like blowout.
Not timing. Boost. We removed boostIf you remember right he said that all was going good in the tune then they started getting KR. And had to back the timing off a good bit. My guess would be a bad batch of gas started the problem. Kr at 30psi and 8000rpm can do some damage pretty quick especially when it was several runs in a row. Obviously that’s just guessing
Unfortunately my AEM failsafe did no good for me. It never detected a lean condition in 2 cylinders, but how could it when the wideband afr sensor was reporting an average of 4 cylinders? That seems to be my problem with my issue. There was no way to know cylinders 2 and 3 were running leaner.Yeah my bad. That what I meant. You was getting kr at high boost and had to back it down.
I was going to just run the ss controller and wot box. After seeing what you’re going thru I’m going to add guardian angel, fuel pressure monitor, tire pressure monitors and lay the Holy Bible on my valve cover before I start running it
This is well beyond my understanding of our ecu logic on our platform. Everyone I have talked to in the community is equally as puzzled. There isn't really much left for me to test. At this point I'm waiting on the test results from Split Second for the controller. Also from Eric (mazdaspeed wire tucks) on his inspection report from my Speed Performance PI harness I sent him. Tuner said he has experienced piston damage like this from a PI failure.I can't understand how it would be so lean to eat those two but yet it was able to keep AFR spot on enough for the logs to look good. That's what is breaking my brain. I would expect the mixture to show much leaner without those two cylinders getting the fuel they need.
When I tune , before the bike ever goes on the dyno I install o2 bungs for each cylinder so I can monitor both while tuning. Also each cylinder gets tuned separately. Sucks we can’t do that on our platform.
Yeah.... 8 grand for the motec though.... hard pass. If we had a more cost effective solution and it was a little more plug and play I would have already gone after market ecu. The SS controller is def old school and pretty dumb. I do wish someone would come out with a newer version that had more logic built into it.It's possible with 4 EGT sensors and an aftermarket ECU. I get that Cobb and Versatune are the standard for our cars but going full PI or even running a hybrid setup of dual injectors a aftermarket ECU would be better.
