Freektune OTS+…

true true, but why ask then? i learned real quick that Mfers on here know from first hand experience. ( unless otherwise stated) I'd trust the info being given and then make your own choice. its like being upset with the results you didn't get from the work you didn't do. just don't make sense.

I understand what you’re saying. I was just referring to the terse answer. I did a little search and read someone saying that ‘Patty’ at Forge said the blue springs work best for mostly stock PSI. I appreciate the input on these forums for sure, but I don’t know anyone and Internet forums are not always a bastion of accuracy so I like to understand the reasons behind what people are saying.

You should definitely keep adding parts while mid tune, keep the tuner guessing. They love that.

I’m not, don’t worry :) I’m going to wait until it’s done. And I also asked Freektune if it’d affect the tune as well.

I really don’t want to offend anyone here. Let me explain.

In my field I am around experts all of the time (nothing to do with cars, and 10 years in my field will not make anyone an expert). Often enough I see experts with impressive credentials who are totally or partially full of crap.

The mere fact that I ask questions here means I respect what you all think. But I want to know why you say what you say so I can have some knowledge about the decisions I need to make. ‘I have spoken’ is not convincing to me.

That’s all.

Anyone here with a high post count is generally very knowledgeable. This is not facebook. A lot of the info they have is from the old forum as well and is no longer documented so it is hard to "prove it". No one here is going to try a steer you in the wrong direction and if they do others will step up and call them out. Sometimes you need to trust what people are telling you. Anything you are thinking of doing has likely been done and people will have info to help you.

In the specific case of "blue two shims," the logic behind it is simply past years of trial and error. The old forum documented, time and again, that the blue+two shims configuration was the golden ticket for spring pressure and preload for stockish builds. I understand wanting to know the logic behind things but on this one, it really is a case of "trust us, we've seen it, this is the go-to."

It is the result of trial and error on the old forum. Blue two shims was the standard welcome in a noob welcome post ten or eleven years ago as that seemed to be the first question noobs would ask about 70% of the time

@jsilva totally get wanting facts and yes I know plenty of engineers that have 10years plus that certainly aren't an expert, I can relate (I'm not an engineer just near them).

That being said a simple Google search provides the psi ratings for the springs in this page https://edgeautosport.com/forge-motorsport-valve-spring-tuning-kit/

You'll notice if you look at the blue spring it says 23-30psi that being said what the MSO OG community has found (from MSF days) that the blue 2 shims seems to work best.
Sometimes 1 shim.

Shims are small metal discs almost look like a washer but with a very small hole in the center

Don't quote me on this but there may have been a revision to the valve that eliminated the need for shims

that could do it, the spring kit doesnt have shims listed. did blue spring 2 shims finally die? is it just blue now?
as per edges page:
Green - 5-15 PSI
Yellow - 15-23 PSI
Blue - 23-30 PSI
Red - 30 + PSI

yellow could be a little weak

Awesome, thanks :)

I contacted Forge to find out about the shims and they said they aren’t using shims anymore. So maybe what Easter Bunny remembers is correct.

Just for amusement… :) I have no idea where this ODB app gets its figures and obviously they aren’t accurate, but perhaps the increase is somewhat reflective of reality?

Stock the most I saw was 329hp/322lb ft.

With Freektune the most I saw was 390hp/367lb ft:

(Those values are delayed in reference to the boost which is why there is no boost.)

Freektune seems to have disappeared. I haven’t heard squat since I sent my last logs and I even asked a question whether I should get a touch up tuning once I install the Forge bypass valve.

Those power numbers:tearsofjoy:
I used that app with my Hyundai Veloster turbo and it always said it made way too much power. As far as I know those numbers are just randomly generated to make the user feel good.

Nothing amusing about that random app it's also probably calculating crank randomly. Data logs are key.

Freektune is very much around, how longs it been since you emailed him? I hope you didn't email more than once because that puts you to the back of the que.
