How to change intermediate shaft/axle bearing Gen1 Mazdaspeed3

Exactly, until they rip...then your girl is like, "dont touch me with those hands."

Yes the bearing glue seems to have held. I cant know for sure without taking it apart but I don't have the sloppy bearing noise. If it was spinning again Im sure it be making crazy noises.

Its legit stuff. Make sure and prep the surfaces.

Noted. Bearing parts on order and will get some glue. Have all the tools and cleaners in the world so it'll be a lovely weekend project when everything arrives...yay...
 
I would have bought a good used intermediate shaft. Since you are going to reuse the old one, take a sharp center punch and peen the inside of the intermediate shaft hole along with the product that was mentioned earlier in this thread. This will give you the best chance at keeping the bearing in place

Good idea Canook. I think I rough sanded both the outside of the bearing and the shaft to get a good bite. But hey yours might not even be loose.
 
I figured we go this route first before replacing the entire thing. I'm more apt to just buy a whole new intermediate shaft before buying a used one. Peace of mind.

I'll definitely take that suggestion tho. While I wait for parts to arrive I'll be studying the guide as well for tips. Never know what's gunna pop up. Prep for the worst and hope for the best!

We have a new wrinkle in the works...ordered parts from Original Mazda Parts and got an email response stating that the Bearing Seal (G560-25-744) does not fit my VIN and I need part# G569-24-744 instead...which is discontinued. Farts.

You and I both have the greatest generation...the Gen1...did that seal work? Not sure how or why it wouldn't work on my 2008. Now I'm emailing everyone and their brother for this other part number.

yes G560-25-744 worked for my gen 1

I'll see if they'll send me that part as I had ordered it and if they don't want to then buying from another vendor.

Already had it off a couple weeks ago lol. Everything under there comes off nice and easy. The car has only seen winter driving once and that's when I drove it home from Long Island the day I bought it. There's virtually zero rust on the car.

However, PB Blaster is always on hand! Hahahaha. My daily is a Subaru...need that stuff just to remove the battery tie-down bracket let alone for EVERY other bolt on the car.
 
Sooooooooo I planned to take the day this coming Thursday to work on the car. In prepping, I took the car out of the carport to stretch it legs a little over a short drive...it didn't make a sound. Sprayed off the months of dirt and then, because I didn't believe what I heard (or didn't hear)...I took it for another drive around the neighborhood.

Nothing.

Just the sweet sounds of the engine vibes and clutch/flywheel...and the loudest HPFPs in all the land.

Still plan to pull it apart because I still don't trust it's gone lol.
