JBR under car piping video.

Here's something. Red line is a BNRs4 and Blue line is HTA3586. These are from a 3rd gear pull for each. One has solid pipes and the other is JBR piping. After seeing that video it has me wondering if this is why they are matching up so well. Anyone have any spooling data for a BNRs4 who has hard pipes?

Silicone hoses are used as high-quality replacements over rubber in terms of both not degrading/crumbling/becoming brittle/cracking, and better chemical resistance too, IIRC (which doesn't really matter for a boost tube, but still).

Regardless, I wonder exactly how much 40 psi testing these saw, and under what conditions, temps, etc. In the end, I know Jamie will stand behind his product and make things right if something fails.
 
Pretty sure he had a Cobb piping kit at the time, not positive though
I believe he does too but modification to the cold pipe for the manifold. He also has the FJ built under piping (hard pipes) I believe waiting to go on
 
Here's the thing guys, that hose will expand as pressure increases, which means that unless it's doing that at 5 psi, the turbo has already spooled and there's next to no effect when they change shape like that. Is it measurable? Probably. Is it significant? Unlikely.

That said, materials can only stretch so much before they let go; the reason this isn't an issue with shorter runs is because pressures are measured in pounds per square inch and when you only use them as couplers, there's a significant reduction in surface area compared to using it as piping, and thus, significantly reduced stretch.
 
^ I think the issue is more about what the bursting point will be vs anything else. I still think there could be issues with the diameter changing on the fly, but the inflation seems more of an issue than that. I dont think many people will see expansion over long periods of time but the guys who do autox and track racing will probably see it more often throughout their day.
 
We are going to trade pipes for a day and see what happens. I'm likely gonna connect my meth and flash the near 40psi tune and see what happens.

It doesn't seem like a huge deal for the everyday driving short bursts of WOT like most of us do, but the track days during the summer when everything gets much hotter is where I'd personally be a little concerned.
 
Me too. Jamie is right, though, that there are too many variables to compare the spool straight up. Dale showed that something as simple as WG pre-load adjustment can make all the difference (on an S3, anyways). Pipes expanding a tad should have very little effect on spool, and virtually none to boost threshold, I'd think.

@Redline we should be able to test spool quite easily. Do a few pulls of my current setup and average the boost curve and then do the same for the JBR cold pipe. It'll be on the same car, same day and same tune. Should be fairly comparible. I would also imagine that a BNRs4 should outspool my HTA tho even in different cars on different tunes. That car in question I tuned and I didn't tune it on a taper. It's making boost when it can make boost. Same goes for mine. That's the scientific portion of what we will be doing.

The other part is just to see how the pipes can handle pressure. I have a setup that can do 40psi. Only thing lacking is that I have to hook my meth back up to flash the tune. By hooking up I mean putting the power wire on the pump and flushing my meth with fresh stuff and attaching my @MATT DAMOND TB/Meth spacer.

So the lag is minimal. That's good. As quigs said, the real issue coukd be hot laps and constant inflation and deflation throughout the day. May be fine for a daily but coukd possibly pose and issue for a track car.
 
I was just going by Jamie's statement but like enki said, the size doesn't necessarily determine spool time.
