JohnnyTightlips Build "Maximum Carnage"

Well my PI stopped working and/or was getting flaky. It was happening more so when it was cold out "freezing temps" and I was not sure if it was a pump issue or something else. I took the bumper off and tested the pump which worked without issue. I checked fuses and everything was good. So I decided to check the relay.

Turns out it is not very waterproof..... I did have it mounted so that the wires were up so maybe the water was seeping through that. I am very surprised it was working at all.

I ended up changing location and flipping relay so it is pointing down. I cleaned up the harness and put a new relay in there. Fired right up.

Yikes lol Surprised it worked like that too but glad you found it sooner than later!

Electricians use"drip loops" for similar situations, but hard to do when water is coming from all directions in automotives... better off how u redid it and maybe some sealing stuffs like plastidip

I got my door and fender fixed. I bought a used fender from a speed 3 but could only find a blue one so I painted it myself. The junk yard said that the speed and reg 3 had different fenders but the body shop said otherwise. I wish I would have known that before as it took forever to find a speed one that was not insane priced and the reg 3 ones are easy to find new for 100$. I still need to cut and buff the clear coat but that fixes the fender. It is not perfect but neither is the rest of the car "body wise". I also got a door from a black NA 3 and it fits perfect. Got everything swapped over and it is working great. I swapped over my tinted windows as well.

This is the video I followed and it worked pretty well.

So you're saying that the regular 3 and Speed share the same body panels for the most part minus hood and front fascia?

The hood is taller and the fenders are taller to tie in according to the online parts lists Mazdaspeed fenders are a different part number for both gens

You know this is true on gen 2 because otherwise a bunch of mzr's would have factory hoodscoop hoods put on them

Gen 1 would have to be the same to accommodate the tmic

Good to know that I went the route I did then.

The time has come, she is for sale. I have had a ton of fun with this car and learned a lot. My kid was literally in tears when I told him I was selling it. Been through a lot but I am ready for the next adventure. Thanks everyone for all the memories. I will still try and help out as I can.

What made you decide to sell it? Everything ok?
Yeah I have been planning to sell it for some time and move on to another project. Car is a ton of fun and a little ripper but I am just ready for the next one. I pretty much did all I wanted to do and learned a ton. I like the tinkering and learning even more than the driving which I know is not always the case. Everything is good and I will be driving my backup car "van" until I find the next one.
