KW V3 Installed

Coilovers and the Corksport Camber plates, and from what I can tell I need to use the stock bushing, right? Or is there more that gets used from the stock parts?

Parts 1 and 2 are bearings for the coilover springs to prevent binding, those are grey on the corksport coilovers (demonstrated by the picture). Your KW's will have the same thing but be purple in color.

If you are installing the corksport camber plates, then the only part you need to reuse from the entire stock suspension is the bushing on the top of the rear spring. That is it.

Do you have shorter endlinks already? The attachment point for the front sway bar endlinks are positioned lower on the KW's. If you don't have them already, you will need those. Also if you have any kind of suspension grease, use it on the rear spring bushing, rear shock bushing sides, and a little on the front strut springs. It will save you from some noise down the road.

I have attached 2 pictures. 1 is of the stock strut mount and purple Teflon spacer/washer from KW, that I had left over after the corksport camber plate install. The other picture is the finished product, KW coilover + corksport camber plate. Good luck.

Edit: Found a picture of my KW's with the stock top hats. The upper coilover assembly in the picture, in order from top to bottom is Stock Top Hat + KW Purple Teflon Spacer + KW black plastic bearings + KW purple aluminum spring adapter. With the corksport camber plates, toss the stock top hat and purple teflon spacer. You'll see that the black bearing will sit more securely on the camber plate seat/flange without it.

The blue springs are hypercoil springs. I'm running 2.5" x 6" 500lb springs on all 4 corners. Fitment in the rear has been a project, just recently finished buttoning everything up and had Toe set.

The pillow nuts need to have the top half bored out so you can get a decent socket in there.

Also, you do not need the top purple Teflon thrust washer. The plastic bearing KW supplies sits better on the plates without it, and also gives you a little more thread engagement on the pillow nut.

They fit. Many have done it. @neganox helped me install mine this weekend. If you have any questions or want pictures let me know.

I just bought that Camber Plate and found this thread. I have the KW V3 running on my gen2 Skyactiv at the moment and planning to take it down for the Camber Plate in next week. Does it mean if I don't bore out that nut the Camber Plate cannot be installed on the V3?

No, not at all. You will just have to find a thin enough socket to slip into the top nut, in order to tighten the strut shaft to the camber plate. Boring it out just makes it roomier for you to stick in more tools, such as different sockets or even a box wrench.

If you are installing the camber plates and coilovers at the same time, you should be able to assemble the setup for the front end ahead of time before you even begin to take your car apart. That way you will be able to find the right tools to assemble everything together.

One more question, does the top nut fully sit below the strut tower's hat after the whole installation? I just want to check if the camber can really be set to the negative max without cutting that strut tower hat out from my car.

The pillow nut DOES fully sit below the strut tower, however without cutting the strut tower you HAVE to drop the front suspension in order to adjust the camber plate. You can not access all 4 locking bolts from that tiny hole on the strut tower. Once you get it installed you will see what I mean.

I wish I remembered more about the install. My camber plates were bought used from Matt Damond, he had the pillow ball nut bored out to allow a decent socket in there. I had a couple of thin sockets to use anyway.

Remember that the KW's are twin tube dampers, so they don't pop out like normal dampers do when you take the load off of them. Meaning... you may have to pull and extend the shaft out a bit to get enough length to install the camber plates.

The pillow nut is rather tall, so you may need to use some vice grips and a thin towel to hold the shaft from spinning while you tighten the pillow nut (just use the vice grip for enough grip, you don't want to overtighten it and damage the shaft. Once you have enough thread engagement, you should be able to stick a thin socket in the pillow nut to torque the shock shaft down.

Remember not to use the purple plastic washer when putting it all together, or else the coil spring bearing won't seat well on the camber plate ledge.

@Mauro_Penguin , one last question I thought of. On the front KW shock, there was a small metal washer at the top of the shaft. I ditched this as it seemed if was preventing the CS camber plate to seat correctly. Was this what you did as well? Or was that little washer needed?

If the washer was no bigger than 1" in outer diameter, than yes you can ditch it. It's just there to use with the nut on the stock top hat. There is no way or need to use it with the corksport camber plates.

Got it. Finally got everything buttoned up and done this weekend. Got ride height set and my adjustable end links on. Feels great so far. Ready for my alignment and corner balance.

Sorry I keep bugging you @Mauro_Penguin lol! But you're one of the only people I know if running the same setup as me. Do you notice a decent bit of low speed noise with the KWs on the CS camber plates? It's not all the time, just on bumps and rough roads really. Need to check my end links again for sure but what do you notice otherwise with the noise from this setup?

What kind of noise are you hearing, and when exactly are you hearing it? I have ironed out a couple of noises before.

First thing that comes to mind are endlinks. Make sure those are tight, also check all the nuts on the camber plates and make sure those are all tight as well.

Stock rears and got some whiteline adjustables for up front and have them set to about the length of the e46 m3 links most use.

Just an update. Went through over the weekend and double checked all bolts to retorqued if needed. Front end links were a tad loose. All is well now, no noise.

Going in next week for an alignment and corner balance.

My rear rebound adjustment extensions from KW should arrive tomorrow as well.
