Looking for some advice on preventative maintenance for my Mazdaspeed3. I’ve owned the car for about 2 months now and it has 173k miles. It runs pretty good overall, but before I start spending money on wheels, cosmetic stuff, or performance upgrades, I want to put some money into making it as reliable as possible first.
So far since owning it I’ve done:
* Compression test: 150 psi across all 4
* Thermostat and coolant temp sensors
* Clutch master and slave cylinders
* New ignition coils and spark plugs
It does have a little timing chain rattle. The car came with an exhaust and supposedly has CorkSport HPFP internals, but I haven’t confirmed that yet.
Has anyone here used Valvoline Restore & Protect on a higher mileage Speed3? I’ve been looking into it and wondering if it’s worth trying at this mileage.
I’m a mechanic, so I can do the work myself. My plan is to rebuild the engine whenever it eventually gives out, but I’d like to make this one last as long as possible before that happens. What preventative maintenance or common Speed3 issues would you guys take care of at 173k before putting money into wheels, cosmetics, or performance upgrades?
