Maisonvi Crank Pulley Tool

A while back when I was building my motor, it looked like a huge PITA to try and torque the crank bolt. I saw a couple solutions, but ended up just going with making my own crank holder tool. Fast forward to assembling and installing another Nator MI’s engine and our actual Mazda tech @ALPINEST4RS mentioned he would like to have one of the tools as well. So I decided to make him up one. This design is a bit different than my original version as mine was designed to be used on an engine on an engine stand. Hopefully with the bolts and holes on this, there will be enough options to hold the crank pulley when its on the car from whatever angle you deem the easiest for you with a 1/2" breaker bar. Then simply put your socket through the center and tq down the crank bolt. (2 people are recommended for this operation)


Once the design was set I ordered enough material to make up a total of 8. One for @ALPINEST4RS , one for @WetzMS3 and sluntworks for all the trouble shooting help he has given myself and Nator MI.


So that leaves me with 6 of these. I may sell a few to people if they want to try and recoup the manufacturing cost, but I was thinking of mostly “renting” them out. You pay for shipping and I will send it off to you (thinking it will fit in a small flat rate box so $6ish bucks), when you are done, either you send it back to me, or to the next person who needs it. We can try to keep track of who has them in this thread. Im not out to make money on this, just to help the MSO community where I can.

Nothing 2 flywheel bolts and a pry bar can't take care of but if you were all alone and need to TQ it this would be boss

This is more for when the motor is attached to the trans in large part. Plus, I didnt like prying on the flywheel bolts even though its probably fine.

Ahhhh good call, I've never had a problem getting to the proper TQ with the ol 6th gear and smash the breaks method but it quite the pain in the ass because it slops a lot.

What's the price point on this bad boy if I wanna buy it, I'd rent it out to my nator fellows here in Ohio as well

Honestly, haven't really thought about it. Not really sure what a good price is. I know what I have into them, so I can think about it.

I received this just in time for a bottom end swap, It turned out amazing! I'll get some pictures and post a better review of this at a later time.

All and all, this is an amazing tool for setting timing, it works very well with the TDC pin and Cam plate.

So I just got a message from @DISIFTW with the attached picture of the crank pulley tool. Looks like there is an upper limit to how much force it can take.

This was trying to remove the pulley, so I guess at this point I will have to recommend that you dont use this tool to hold the pulley off. I thought I had done this before but maybe the one I removed wasnt as stuck as his was. We are guessing that there was at least 200 ft*lbs, maybe more put into this, so be careful if you rent one of these and are trying to break the bolt loose.

Ive used this tool for torquing the crank bolt multiple times (75 ft*lbs and then 90 degrees). So I think it should be fine for that still.
