Maisonvi's never ending build

Awesome to hear its running strong. do you daily this beast? If I do rebuild this will be the way I go as I never was a fan of Meth

I drive it every day its running. I try to drive it all winter as well, but I also usually do the large work in the winter, so it gets traded for a jeep a lot of the time then.

PI is for sure easier than keeping an eye on meth, but meth isnt really bad either. If you have the money, going with PI is the way to go, but its not the cheapest. I did it on a super budget for about $1500, a nice meth kit is about 1/2 that.

Yea I was looking at that. Cost is easily $1700-2200 for intake mani and fueling. That's why im hesitant about building as I dont have any other car at the moment. Decisions decisions .... Anywho good luck.

My advice? get a spare car before doing much/any modding. I went BT before having a back up, it was so stressful. There are always issues, and just having the ability to walk away and not have to work all night so you can get to work in the morning is a nice thing.

I am currently in that boat as I went CS turbo and got to 402 to the wheels before I noticed large oil consumption. compression test put me at 120 across the board with 50+ blow by with leak down. Just trying to make a decision on what I want to do.

Great looking build man! Do you think the port injection helps with keeping the intake valves clean similar to meth? And if you are still feeling slow after it all, you can always add a supercharger for a twin charge set up and really broaden the power band. Not sure how much power these l4 cylinders can handle though.

This doesnt sound right. Bad injextor seals maybe?

Yeah the PI will clean the valves just like meth does. Probably even better just based on how its spraying more evenly than meth.

I dont think I will be needing too much more as far as power goes. Just finishing up my 93 tune, and it looks like Im at about 425whp, which is a great spot IMO for a DD tune. Nothing too aggressive. Would I like more? Yeah, always. But a safe solid every day tune is what Im looking for here.

Next up is an E85 mix, we will see what that takes me to. I still have my meth hooked up too, but Will says its so much harder to control than the PI system that I should just remove it.

@Maisonvi is the PI spraying all the time or only when boost gets to a certain threshold like meth?

Im not 100% sure, I think its both boost and load based, but I know its not going all the time.

Did you ever get your VVT all done up?
Gotcha, Gotta go fast to keep the engine clean :) doing it this weekend with @DISIFTW I'll be documenting the process and I'll let you know how the tool works out

Maybe for the low compression, but I had oil spewing out of my vented catch can, and all through my intake and intercooler pipes. Turbo was not blown. was loosing 4 quarts in 2 months

Looks like I should be able to hit the dyno next week. Going to see what my 93 tune is at and try and get it all dialed in and finished up for the track day at gingerman for the Midwest Meet.

Hopefully I can knock out an E85 tune as well before the weather turns. I dont see it taking that long though really.

How you figure? The CS IM, in particular, is only ~$700. For $650, get the Cooling Mist CMGS, which has autolearning and failsafe features. That's only $1,350, say $1,400 with a TB spacer. I know 500whp guys with this setup who love it, and the CS IM has extremely even distribution, just like the FoST one, but no need to do all the extra costs of changing all your IC setup stuff.

People need to stop using the CS manifold in these conversations. It's not available yet, and we don't know the price. Until it comes out, it's all just speculation.

That said, I had 500 with meth, but everything about the pi system is so much easier and more stable. I'm sure I've posted in here, but I did my whole PI system for less than $1500. So for a bit more it's a great way to go IMO.

O, ye of little faith in the CS release.... LOL. You are right, though. It's not done until it's released and vetted out by the community. I am very hopeful, however, especially due to lots of advantages it has over alternatives. And PI benefits aside, $1,500 for just fuel vs. $1,500 for fuel and IM is a big difference.

May I ask what methanol system you ran? If it was an HFS-4 or the CMGS, it should have been completely rock-solid. Care to elaborate on the issues you had?

Yeah, IMO until its released and out, it shouldnt be a part of any conversation. I could say Im making my own manifold, that will be $250, flow better than everything out there and come with PI and a rail. But until I actually provide that, it means nothing. That said I agree the CS looks promising.

Mine was $1500 for PI and the manifold. Thats total for the whole system; 650cc injectors, in-tank pump, split second, lines, fittings and manifold.

As for meth I ran an AIS system. 2.5 gallon trunk mount tank, stainless lines, solenoid going to a TB plate I made with a DO7 and a DO10 nozzle running 100% meth. Here is back when I first had it in: http://mazdaspeeds.org/index.php?threads/alcohol-injection-systems-stage-1-trunk-kit.821/#post-9231

Sounds like you did it for a great price overall. That definitely beats the $1500 for just fuel I was thinking you meant. I heard those AIS systems are nice. Did you keep having leaks or something? You said PI is so much "easier and more stable" and I'm curious what you meant.
