I think it's a hard line so that it can be bolted up properly and not rub on anything, but yeah, don't see why it would be an issue, really.
Yeah I assumed the same. Now I just need to figure out the sizes of the hose it attaches to on each end and get a hose and some fittings. It never ends. The joy of a highly modified car

I'm going to be doing the same before long myself, but probably going to make a custom version of that solid piece due to my changed coolant routing requirements.

Had a brief few min this morning before I head to the inlaws for that family's christmas and came across an issue trying to throw my intake back on. Looks like the new manifold/hotside moved the intake ever so slightly down and back from the previous location. Before it was very tight with the 4" intake and the coolant hardline running under it. Now there is no way it will clear. Moved maybe only a 1/4" but that was enough to cause issue here.

Has anyone ever heard of someone replacing this line with a soft line? I dont see why not, and it would help me in a few tight clearance issues. (the T for the turbo coolant feed has quite a bend in it I would love to eliminate with this too.

I have converted that to a soft line. Although, I don't have a water cooled turbo, so it's literally just the standard 3/4 line from the oil cooler, to a 3/4 to 5/8 union, then a 5/8 line the rest of the way to the heater core. Pretty standard procedure for those running PTE

Is the line against the firewall to the heater core 5/8 or 3/4?

The line straight off the oil cooler is 3/4 and is pretty short. The rest of it is 5/8 all the way up to the firewall
[doublepost=1483442743][/doublepost]Just make sure you use a brass, barbed union. I had a plastic one and it got brittle and broke on me after 6 months. Emptied every ounce of coolant onto the road on me in a pretty bad location lol

Good to know, I was thinking the hose connecting to the hard line was 3/4". I tried some PEX brass fittings because they are cheap and easy to get, but PEX 3/4" and heater hose 3/4" are not the same. The fittings are just a bit too small.

Mind me asking where you got your fittings?

There's a thread on the other forum that's pretty old but some guy managed to shoehorn two 450s into a stock carrier iirc. Maybe take a look at that to get an idea.

I bought micha's 450, so Im thinking I will try something like this and run from the pump to a bulk head fitting and then run a return using the stock line to dump back into the basket.

Only issue is Micha's pump doesnt have the connector for the pump, so I might have to get tricky with the wiring, or find a spare connector to splice on.

Does that plug into the pump that has the connector on it, or the connector in the basket? I assumed the one in the basket is a mazda specific one.

ahhhh I understand now why not just hard wire the pump to the connector on the dw? i doubt you are going to find a plug and play for the wally.
I might end up doing just that. Just bought some fuel resistant heat shrink to solder my wires to whatever I end up doing.

i recently had to hardwire the stuff for my aems and it is def sketch but i made sure i had a good clean solder then shrink wrapped well past the ends to ensure overlap. you have way more ocd than i do so i would say you will be gewd.

I do have a spare one of these, so maybe I can splice that in. Still need to check my voltage at the pump too to see if I need to boost it up

Ask Dan @silvapain . He replaced his hard line with AN hose.
 
Well, despite a few set backs, I swapped over my coolant hardline with a soft one. @Sho just an FYI, not sure what is different about your system, but I had to use 3/4" hose in all locations, there was no 5/8" on mine. So after I ordered all the needed fittings, install wasnt too bad. The hardest part was getting the old hard line out. I have lots of space for my intake now.

Im slowly working down my list of things left to do to the car. this is what I have left as of right now:

Replace power steering line
Re-route O2 sensor wiring for AFR gauge
Finish installing fan controller
Create all new fuel lines and return
Design a way to install a walbro 450 on the stock basket with a pick up
Design an ECU mounting plate
Brake Ducting

So yeah, some of those are a fair bit bigger projects than others, but none are keeping me off the road anymore, so thats good.
 
Good deal, glad you got it sorted though. I'm curious now why yours (or mine) is different. We've used the 3/4 to 5/8 on every big turbo car up here in North East Ohio, granted everyone is running PTE up here, so no water cooling and the full egr delete we use has no coolant line.
