Here in the states I live in an area we call the “Rust Belt” due to the salt they use to de-ice the roads eating away cars after sometimes only 1-2 years on the road. The Speed6 (well almost all Mazdas 2000-2008) suffered from rear quarter panel rust if they spent time in this area. I just repaired my quarter panels after I got my Speed6 about a year ago (though a few small spots on the passenger well I that appeared in new spots after the initial repair). I used $50USD rear quarter panel patches from a regular Mazda6 of the same year. I have been doing body work on my 240Z slowly for a while now and have a welder, so it wasn’t too hard to take care of. For your case they probably don’t make a specific patch panel for parts in the boot, but at 3k (I assume AUD) your body shop should be able to make pretty close recreations out of 18ga sheet metal weld it in and paint it. If you have the means to do it I would suggest cutting up a normal 6 in a junkyard first and seeing how it fits before trying to track down a Speed6 to cut up. Eventually we’ll run out of parts cars the way I’m seeing them wrecked and parted out these days.
