Just thought i would share this. This is a new product out from Treadstone for the Mazdaspeed 6, custom aluminum crash bar for mounting TR8 or TR1035 Intercoolers. Pics included are of it installed on my car. Fitment is pretty good, mounting brackets and bolts were included. Some longer bolts for the bent bracket to radiator support/ and plastic headlight under bracket will be needed. I am not sure what the actual price is on the crash bar, i got it for $299 shipped from new age, but have seen a different person on new age saying a higher price. I do know they are limited in numbers though...But you can check on the Treadstone website.20160805_163126.jpg 20160805_163148.jpg 20160805_163802.jpg 20160805_164026.jpg 20160805_164149.jpg 20160809_182036.jpg

I wonder how strong it is. I got the UR one, but it's made of thick, square-stock steel. I'm very glad it's as heavy and robust as it is. But in truth, most of the crash energy in a front-end collision is absorbed by the longitudinal frame rails, not the crash bar. Having said that, I'm glad mine looks at least as strong as stock.

well it's aluminum, so it most likely wont hold up very well in a good front end collision. It is however pretty sturdy and lightweight, and too be honest...the stock crash bars offer very little protection as is.

1) Fuck New Age Scammer Nate...if ordering, order from a vendor not banned on so many pages and forums (yes, AFTER he was fired from XTR), hit up reputable vendors who are supporting the community in a positive way. But hey, that's just me.
2) Treadstone's MS3 Pu crashbar was not aluminum and it folded into an oragami dragon at less than 5 MPH on @neganox's car. They should stick to intercoolers. I think the rule of thumb for any crash bar...don't actually use it in a wreck.

I hear ya. But I'd rather have an aftermarket crash bar than none at all. Besides, I have my Treadstone TR8C custom mounted to it.

True. I want to say the Civics have an aluminum crash bar, but it is 5x that size. I would not trust my safety to that thing.

stock crash bars don't protect worth a shit either. I'm not saying this is any better, just saying they are both pretty much worthless in a descent crash. I wouldn't even really label this a "crash bar" , more of an " Intercooler support hanging device" ...and that's really the only reason i bought it. so i can mount my TR1035.

The key point I am glad you get, is that they really are not meant for crashes. But I have seen crash bars help slow down the impact on copart cars. Hitting a tree is not recommended. :)

Indeed. If anything, it's to try to protect your radiator and other things immediately behind it. But the speed at which it'll fail completely isn't that high at all, even with stock bars. If you hit a cylindrical object, like a tree or a pole, dead-center, a huge amount of force is focused upon that point of impact and the momentum of ~3,500lbs of car and driver will push the object straight through that crash bar with a quickness.

I have yet to see a factory one be passed through, but I have seen them take the shape of a pole. They absorb energy to keep the motor from being pushed into the cabin.

Of course, all this fear I have, is over wrecking. Chances are low, but I am old and have been in a few to know I need safety.

So MSO rules will be modified to have a ban on crashes. That will make it not happen.

If your going ban crashes might as well step it up and ban ZZB as well. Of course then I couldn't get cheap parts from part outs.

Marlin at Edge contacted treadstone to see if they would sell the crash bar separate from the ms6 intercooler kit they offer and they would not

Lemme guess, because exclusivity? o.0
Well, whatever the case may be, hopefully they learned regarding the major fitment issues on their initial MS3 setup release and have incorporated what they've learned into this kit.

i also recently got the treadstone kit. I was quite impressed with the welds and for aluminum it is quite stout, but saying that i am also aware of if im in any sort of crash dealing with the front end it will crumple. hopefully i wont find out and get banned

Their crash bar is shit so no big loss. No tow hook mount, missing head light mounts, if your not moving your washer fluid tank there is no mounts for stock location. Parts have to be cut to fit because there measurements are off. I have one and will be selling the whole kit because it is not worth the money and can have a custom one made for the same cost.

If it were me, I'd replace it with a steel one. Like I said, that's one thing I love about my UR crash bar - it's very stout square steel stock. May not be the same as stock, but it's not going to crumble like aluminum. No tow hook on mine either, but you could have a machinist/welder address that pretty easy, I'd bet.

I gotta say...
The intercooler & treadstone guard saved everything behind it [emoji28]

Holy shit.

Younger kid driving & he had to be going pretty damn fast.
The motor mounts are pushed back a bit
You can tell his head hit the inside of the glass before the airbag got to him. Didn’t look like he had the recall fixed either :/
Low miles & immaculate interior
BC coilovers
BNR s3 Kit, cp-e manifold etc the car is loaded
Even had the accessport v2 still in it
